Sadly food fraud is alive and well as it always has been. It undermines trust, destroys the hard work of farmers and cheats consumers who are trying to do the right thing. Eloquently and brilliantly illustrated in this thread by @AnnaLongthorp 👇.
Feeling bitterly disappointed this eve. I’m proud to be a farmer. Sadly I’m far from proud to work in the meat industry despite being proud of what we personally do in terms of transparency and traceability. 1/6

@HertsFarmer The unthinkable happened to a very close friend of ours less than 8 weeks ago. Utter tragedy. Heartbreaking. Farm accident. He was working alone. Job he’d done over and over….split second mistake. “It would never happen to me” But it can 😢.

When I comment on farm safety I’m often accused of being a member of the nanny state police or someone who doesn’t understand why farming is ‘just different’. Can every one of us reflect on just 1 thing. We make up 1% of the workforce & suffer 18.5% of all work related fatalities.

Bad start to the day. Arrive at Trains Station for a @ButchersHall meeting and realise I’m wearing trainers form my earlier dog walk!!! Two days at @Groundswellaguk and I’ve already forgot what a dress code is!!!.

Fly tipping is hideous. Not only do the blatant, selfish & criminal acts of a minority blight the countryside. The fact they choose private land for their crime hands responsibility for clearing up the mess to an innocent victim or they themselves become a criminal - JUST WRONG

Industrial scale fly tipping is ruining many farmers lives. People need to stop turning a blind eye / ignoring because it’s on private land / just shrugging their shoulders and putting it in the too hard pile (delete as appropriate).

Young people too often get a bad press. This week I have Will with me. A young lad on work experience from @KWSHarpenden Without doubt one of the hardest working, most polite and nicest young people I’ve ever had on the farm. He has been a pleasure to host.

DISTRICT CHAMPS: Our brilliant athletes have WON the overall district championship after a super day at the track. We took the overall boys, came 2nd in overall girls (to an excellent Sandringham) and won the overall cup. Huge congrats to all. #proudrps #rpsathletics 🏆❤️

There’s few Journalists more on top of Defra brief these days than @horton_official Clearly written thread highlighting significant cuts that will have very significant impacts on farming businesses, rural communities & wider society who need farmers to deliver many public goods.
Cuts to nature friendly farming budget confirmed: Defra claims the fund will "skyrocket" from £800m in 23/24 to £2bn in 28/29. However, the entire farming payments budget including the EU acreage payments which were being phased out was £2.4bn, so looks like £400m a year cut.
