This is truly bizarre. Newsom is suing Fox News for $787 million because they say he lied about a phone call? And I'd say that he basically did lie about the phone call, but I don't want to be sued for $787 million, so I'm definitely not saying that!.

Delighted that Michael Sammler (co-advised by Deepak Garg and me) just received an Otto Hahn Medal, the Max Planck dissertation award given to 28 PhDs across all MPIs. Michael, who recently started a tenure-track position at IST Austria, is amazing.

I will never forgive the Republicans for confirming this mass-murdering maniac. Trump's worst appointment by a large margin. How is it possible that only Mitch McConnell voted no?.

Oh man. Chicago was where I learned to truly love fine dining. These places look so good: some I remember from 18 years ago, like Boka and Lula Cafe. Oriole was one of the best fancy meals I had in the past 10 years.

Surprise surprise. My theory is that Trump got excited about the "bunker busters" because they sounded like a good golf strategy.

Despite his fascism, destroying the country, and the fact that he engaged in quickie war with one of them for unclear benefit, the New Yorker in me appreciates that this comment is pithy yet degenerate, like Annie Hall.

"The conflations that underlie most political conversations about antisemitism make it seem as if everyone wants to kill Jews. If you believe the whole world wants you dead, then you are much less likely to stand up for human rights or civil liberties. ".

I also thank my other coauthors on the Destabilizing paper: Niklas Mück, Haoyi Zeng, Michael Sammler, Andrea Lattuada (@utaal), and Peter Müller. I am very lucky to have such brilliant and fun people to work with.

"Tree Borrows" is based on a great idea of Ralf Jung's, further developed by Neven Villani, initially during an internship at MPI, and by Johannes Hostert, a student of Ralf's. The technical work in that paper is impressively tricky and took many iterations to get right!.

The reviewer had a point -- it was quite unclear at the time that Later Credits were good for anything practical. But like higher-order ghost state before them, they have turned out to be extremely useful in surprising ways.

It was fun to hear at PLDI that PulseCore (at MSR) is making good use of Later Credits. When we originally submitted that paper to POPL a few years ago, it was rejected because a reviewer was unconvinced that Later Credits were good for anything practical. .

"Destabilizing Iris" is the brainchild of Simon Spies, an incredible student and friend, who also led the projects on Transfinite Iris, Later Credits, and Quiver, and who is now stoking the fires of OCaml at Jane Street in London.

Very honored to receive two Distinguished Paper Awards at @PLDI this year for the papers "Destabilizing Iris" and "Tree Borrows". They were largely the work of my awesome students and collaborators.
