@FelixCLC_ @AmpereComputing E.x. Apple, the end goal there was always near complete vertical integration, 'own' your designs, 'own' a fab And they had generous terms for arm due to Apple/Acorn & have a good relationship with TSMC If they had an equivalent X86 license and were THE partner for Intels fab,

@FelixCLC_ @AmpereComputing Like my personal case is the architecture doesn't matter anywhere near as much as the average consumer thinks The implementation does of course, but choice comes down to business case rather than appreciable engineering benefits Not that there aren't any, but little free lunch

@FelixCLC_ @AmpereComputing I agree w/ your take, I just disagree the reasoning, x86 binaries are are the default right now, that is a relatively easy fix, emulation is acceptable as well Rather x86 isn't dead because it is a genuinely good, modern, relevant architecture, mainstream folks think its archaic

It’s time to swap “the number of people claiming Moores law is dead doubles every 2 years” to “the number of people claiming X86 is dead doubles ever 2 years” For all the good things going on in Arm/RISC, the least painful platform to do most things on is still X86

@AmpereComputing Now, not to say the risc-v ecosystem isn't growing in leaps and bounds; it was enough for @Meta to acquire RIVOS for a reported ~2B valuation *pre* tape-out

@hibakod Muting all 3 is probably a good start for any technically oriented Twitter user. If need be, a simple voice box that squawks "you should use asm not intrinsics" can substitute for the FFMpeg guy if you need that in your life for some reason.

Theo starts drama with FFmpeg, again Theo “squashes beef” with FFmpeg Lunduke latches onto drama because slow news week Theo doesn’t like the attention Lunduke is bringing to the drama he started Calls Lunduke a “net negative” to tech How does he do it folks?

I still mostly agree with this over a year later. X86 continues to be the best default platform, nobody else has *earned* the title of being an equivalent. Closest we’ve come is the work of @AmpereComputing on the Arm side, and nobody (yet) on the RISCV side.

Just in time! @AIatMeta just published this paper on building libraries for 100K clusters:
The real values of these rack scale appliances will likely play out for multirack models. We're on pace to hit 100T parameter models within the next 2-3 years; the biggest barrier is the uptime of network fabrics at that scale

钱多了广撒网,也不一定每个芯片都apealing了
Listening to Jensen talk about his favorite maths - specs of Vera Rubin chips, and the full stack from lithography to robot fleets assembling physical fabs in Arizona & Houston. Quoting Jensen, “these factories are basically robots themselves”. I visited NVIDIA facilities
