Christmas in Kabul! 🎄🎅 In 2014, our VP Eamon spent Christmas at Camp Qargha, Kabul. QRF by day, then a rare break to enjoy a British Mess Christmas dinner as snow fell outside. To all who serve over Christmas, and the families beside them: thank you, and Merry Christmas!🎄

We stand with the Australian Jewish community and all those affected by the attack in Bondi tonight. Antisemitism and hatred have no place in Australia. We cannot accept this. Our Jewish brothers and sisters must be safe in this country, just as all Australians should be.

Hawthorn RSL strongly condemns the gutless vandalism of the Victoria Police Memorial. We stand with the men and women of Victoria Police. With around 10% having served in the ADF, the bond with the veteran community is strong. These cowardly acts have no place in our society.

Today is International Volunteer Day, and at Hawthorn, we absolutely love a volunteer. Hawthorn RSL is 100% volunteer and despite having no paid staff, we’re proud of the high standards of the service we provide. We’re grateful to all of our volunteers and thank you sincerely

Great to host our new @RSL_Australia National President Peter Tinley AM at Hawthorn RSL last night. Joined by @rslvic State President Mark Schroffel and @SenRaffCiccone, we were deeply impressed by Peter’s passion, candour, and openness. The RSL has new direction and new energy!

We’re on the level! The new deck is finally underway after delays with pipes, flooding, collapsed footings & shocking weather, but we’re back on track! This space will give us a level area for events & better access for those with mobility issues. Can’t wait to see you on it!

On Sundays… we NERD! ⚔️🐉 Our first Dungeons and Diggers saw six veterans dive into the Kingdom of Ul, guided by Dutchy and powered by snacks and far too much soft drink. Plenty of laughs, teamwork, dodgy dice rolls; a cracking first quest. Keen to join the next one? 🎲

Our team have arrived at Lara RSL for the 96km Kokoda Memorial Challenge. We’ve got 4 walkers joining 144 veterans & supporters from across the state, raising money for better services for veterans transitioning out of defence in the area. Well done Lara & @rslvic!

On this day, 8 October in 2007, Trooper David “Poppy” Pearce of the 2nd/14th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry), made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan. He left behind a wife and two daughters. Poppy and his family are always in our thoughts. Rest In Peace.

On Wednesday, @rslvic Region 1 met with Major Lachlan Poppins, ADF Liaison for Army Cadets VIC and @HawthornRsl member. We spoke about changes to AusArmyCadets being a pathway to Defence, a “Circle of Service” linking RSLs, Cadets, ADF, and back. Service inspiring Service. 🇦🇺
