The Battle of Atbara on 8 April 1898 saw the Dervishes trying to defend a thorn zeriba and trenches against the most modern weapons the Anglo-Egyptian army under Kitchener could throw at them. The result was little more than a massacre. Please share!.

The success of the Dongola campaign meant that in 1898 Kitchener was ready to advance towards Omdurman, moving up along the Sudan Military Railway and the Nile to Atbara. The time of reckoning was approaching for the Khalifa. Please share! Thanks!
