Our meta-analysis of 279 stroke studies over 24 years, with 117K+ participants, found that 1 in 2 stroke patients experience adverse non-motor outcomes. Adjusted meta-regression shows 8/10 domains persist more than 10-years. Time for change in stroke care.

There is an urgent need for policy-driven, long-term, translational, and integrated life after stroke pathways, embedded within health systems to ensure equitable, person-centred recovery and sustained quality of life for survivors.
“An integrated, evidence- and data-driven pathway is what works for stroke care, from prevention to life after stroke.” Prof. Simona Sacco outlines how the #StrokeActionPlan provides a practical roadmap with measurable targets for stroke care in Europe. #StrokeCare #EUHealth

Young stroke cases are rising at record rates, yet stroke care still centers on visible motor and language impairments. The stroke care pathway must urgently expand to address disabling non-motor challenges, backed by focused research to drive effective intervention.
Our latest manuscript on young-onset stroke shows that fatigue, sleep disturbance, and reduced social participation are common “hidden” disabilities, even in patients with favourable recovery on the mRS. @UCLStrokeRes @HOzkan92 @DrGargiBanerjee @UCLIoN
