You may trust the motives of a sensible centre left /centre right govt, but that may not be what you get in the future. This bill is now very Australian in character and influence, particularly in the DC, consolidation and VFM approach. That is a good thing 3/.

the bill as it continues the work of the previous govt on DB, Superfunds, value for money by performance metrics, default decumulation, etc. Mandation and the unlimited breadth of the Secretary of States powers are the concern for me. This is a bill thin on checks and balances 2/.

5 years ago we lost our twin boys. They are never forgotten. A long journey since of grieving, sadness, kindness to each other, Zola dog 🐕 therapy and faith. Thanks to the miracle of #IVF Kit and Marina are now with us and thriving. #NeverGiveUp .#keepsmiling .#onwards 👍
Sadly, just over a week ago we lost our twin boys. Teddy came and went from this world quickly and quietly. He passed peacefully. Our younger twin, Rafe, was not born until Tuesday 23, but died later that day in NeoNatal ICU. Baby loss, and coping with grief, is very hard 1/

Would be good to see the work led my myself, @BimAfolami @hmtreasury @transportgovuk @TheFCA @WhichUK /industry in early 2024 bear fruit in a reduction in car insurance premiums. This working group was continued by the new govt in autumn 24 but no action in almost a year 2/.

I was the minister in charge of the £2 bus fare in 2024. You scrapped it and raised it to £3!!!.
You should be able to get around without it costing the earth. That’s why we’re extending the £3 bus fare cap until 2027. Our Plan for Change is putting money back in your pocket.

This is depressingly absurd ⬇️. The economic prosperity of the country has not grown since last July 24. Much better for govt to admit it made a mistake, eat humble pie and reboot.
Sophy Ridge is right - the claim that the Winter Fuel payment is back because the economy is stronger does not stand up to scrutiny. As she shows here.

I predicted a U turn on #winterfuelpayment by government 11 months ago. The real problem is the consequences of this disastrous decision in July 24 will impact on long term reform of much of DWP policy on state pension and associated benefits. ⬇️.
Thread 🧵 on the Labour reduction in #WinterFuelPayments. I was the Minister in charge of this policy at DWP from 2017-2022. Labour are making a big mistake 1/.

Much more detail here ⬇️.The HMT / DWP are pushing forward the necessary reforms and evolution of policy some of which I started. Clearly mandating power on DC funds is controversial: the wording will matter. As always wait to see the fine print 2/ .

Much to unpick but pleased with the direction of travel in the #PensionsReview:.- the DB surplus measures & continued support for DB superfunds are welcome ✅.- DC mastertrust changes are a balance - but size does matter ✅.- pressing ahead with LGPS ✅.- PPF expansion on hold 1/.
