Thanks to @CSIS and @GregPoling for hosting me today to talk about our book, New Answers to Old Questions: Myanmar Before and After the 2021 Coup d'État, written with @ShonaLoong. Great to see a good turnout in Washington, DC for a discussion on how best to help Myanmar.

The reason we call [the book] a bit of a revisionist guide to Myanmar politics is because we argue...that the NLD was not the vehicle many in this city thought it was in advancing values of liberalism and cosmopolitanism. - @ConnellyAL

Move Forward, the largest party in #Thailand's parliament, has just been disbanded by court order. The ruling was sadly not unexpected: for years, the establishment has closed ranks to quash any party that it deems a threat. It is the 9th party to be dissolved since 2007.

America needs an innovative Indo-Pacific strategy focused on security, economic opportunity, and alliances. Vital to this effort is supporting the Philippines against Beijing's aggression. My thanks to @CSIS for the chance to discuss this at the 14th South China Sea Conference.
