Pro tips for video game fans:
-don't tag devs' personal accounts asking for something in a game
-don't use ALL CAPS
-don't make assumptions about how game dev works and then tweet about them
I promise if you follow these steps you'll be happier and so will devs you support.
Something others have pointed out which is worth mentioning. I can only speak for myself. I'm a white cis straight male designer. So I'm also working with some privilege for sure.
But overall I was very encouraged by how my managers actively pushed for me to avoid burn out.
So in game dev when you hear someone talk about production methods & mention "[studio name] magic" or "the [studio name] method," 99% of the time they're just talking about crunch.
It's just crunch. Magic isn't real but peer pressure, bad management, & poor planning are.

Bringing down stream time that rough on PS4 would take enormous dev time. We'd never have been able to iterate & commit to crafting multiple sequences like this across the game.
Our first look at Ratchet on PC! It has a few issues but it's overall in good shape! Infinitely better than TLOUP1 and Jedi Survivor at launch. The funniest bit is when Rich tried running the game off an actual PS4 hard drive on a machine just above min spec!

I did some early pre-pro work on a bar in this section and some of the planning for a meat factory (you see the hanging tauntaun carcasses). It was the first professional level design work I ever did. It was very important to me. Happy to see it again.

Big life update:
After 2.5yrs in LA today I'm moving back to the SF Bay Area. Couldn't be happier. More of my friends live there than anywhere else. The beauty of WFH is that I can live surrounded by loved ones while still working at the absolute best studio in the world for me.

It's all come to this. We've put so much love into this game and it has been so fun to work on.
I'm constantly surprised by the cute and adorable and extremely well executed work by this team.
I hope once people can play it that they have a fraction of the fun we had making it.
I'm particularly happy with how fast travel turned out. Drop into the map in any arbitrary location once you've explored enough of a district. It took lots of collaboration across our UI, art, animation, and tech teams to make it look and feel this smooth!

Look. QA is vital to game dev. And they're constantly thrown under the bus, or at least very underappreciated. And that sucks. If you see a place not value them, that's a big red flag.
I just want to say this game was a huge labor of love by many talented devs who deserve praise.
I remember the excitement in the room when we found out we were gonna make it. It's been 7 years since then, 3 years since I left the project, & 2 years it's been out. Surreal.

Not a GoW dev but I've had plenty of experience making squeeze-thrus in 2 Tomb Raider games & Avengers. Squeezes were almost never used to load things ahead of them.
Pacing, tone, back-gaiting yes. Loading, I can only think of 1 example of maybe 100 placed.
This kind of work freedom IS the future. I'm so happy I'm able to live close to loved ones and still work at such an amazing studio.
