Had a lovely 24hrs in Kirkcudbright for my Book Week event. Great turnout, v engaged audience & Alan McClure was a top host. Shout out to Gallovidia Books which was going like a fair on Saturday. Had a nice chat with Stewart & signed stock. Great to see an indy book shop thriving

#NowReading 🗣️ Graeme Thompson 📖 A New History Of Simple Minds A fascinating read, more than worthy of its subject matters. Great examinations of their two main periods, and with superb insight as to how they took the steps on that journey. A must read for all SM fans ❤️

Sixteen years ago today John Martyn died. The worst of him was about as bad as bad can be; the best of him went into the music - some of it as close to sublime as music gets. I tried my level best to present both (many) sides of his story in Small Hours.

excited to dig into this Kate Bush book, especially since it's sporting the Paddy McAloon stamp of approval

Three years old today. Still going strong.
Publication day for Themes For Great Cities: A New History of Simple Minds. As always, exciting and slightly nerve racking. Gratified by all the positive feedback so far. I'm proud of the book and - thanks to many good people at Constable @LittleBrownUK - it looks beautiful.

'Kerr gave the impression he had been prodded into public view as an act of penance, living through his own personal nightmare for the purposes of entertainment.' 47 years ago today, Simple Minds make their debut at Satellite City, Glasgow.

I appear to be in @thetimes today, ostensibly talking about #AKickUpTheArts, but it took quite the turn. Includes: Hercules the Bear, @deaconbluemusic, my most embarrassing moment, those persistent Willem Dafoe rumours & a sneak preview of some live dates: https://t.co/AXqkODZ401

The lake has frozen at Kew Gardens & every child who sees it is utterly rapt. Ice. The sheer expanse of it. The joy of poking & cracking it with sticks; of chucking cheese sized ice wedges across the surface & hearing them whizz & skitter & finally smash. Simple delights.
