An interdisciplinary team of remarkable scientists (and great friends) put together a study leveraging AI to find new antibacterial molecules against Acinetobacter baumannii. I think we are well into an era of AI-augmented drug discovery...WOOO!!! https://t.co/Igp8bRRAv0

When "normal" (rod-shaped) bacteria lose control of cell division, their length changes. How can we find "cell shape" mutants in Staph, which is round pretty much no matter what? Does this different shape need different envelope factors? Come find out! https://t.co/rUWiPlT52e

Our first #AlphaFold wow moment! Lipoproteins like NlpE detect cell envelope stress, but how? @J_Marotta decided to find out, discovering a key loop in NlpE. Mutants can’t activate the CpxA sensor kinase to signal stress. https://t.co/WJw8aqqMhS

NlpE is an amazingly adaptable sensor of all sorts of stress. See new stories from @JFClab & @EzratyB: https://t.co/WjjPqf99Gj & from @traivio & @TimCho17:

She also asked #AlphaFold how NlpE:CpxA might interact… via her NlpE loop! Mutating the predicted interacting residues in CpxA blinds the sensor to NlpE (though not other stressors)! Eerily accurate prediction that matches the genetics!

New! Gram- cells need lipoproteins to build their surface. LolA & LolB deliver these in E.coli. But many species only have LolA - where's LolB? For Caulobacter, LolB is... LolA! It's a bifunctional protein! We can even tweak E.coli LolA to do double duty!
