A cold and sharp wind overnight has stripped all the remaining leaves off the trees. Thus the leaf fall season ends and the Snow and Ice season gets underway.

Just in case you forgot why Israel is fighting.
This is Omer (2 years old) and his twin sisters Arbel and Shahar (5 and a half) Siman Tov. They were burned alive by Hamas on Oct 7th. Both parents, Johnny and Tamar were killed too. “They’re here, they’re burning us” - one of Johnny’s last texts to his sister Ranae. Their

An interesting exchange showing the downsides of manging LD services on the hoof. New VSTP schedules cannot get into downstream systems without a lot of manual interventions
@SGBrydges Hello Steven, yes there is a service running at 12:58 from Newcastle. Apologies for the confusion. The original train from Inverness will terminate at Edinburgh and a separate 11:30 service has been added from Edinburgh. ^Katie

An exceptionally clear and lucid account of just how anti-semantic the west has become.
Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty, a largely forgotten Irish priest, spent World War II hiding Jews from the Nazis. He is a compelling moral example to us today as antisemitism surges once again. A new essay from me. https://t.co/HbHf22W3xB

Time and memory are strange bedfellows. This I remember vividly as if it were just a few years ago this night. https://t.co/XnS11BPYbI

In 1981, the crew of the Penlee lifeboat Solomon Browne were lost attempting to rescue the crew and passengers on board a stricken coaster. Find out more.

All EU countries except Croatia and 4 of the associated countries are included in the Turing Scheme, which covers 160+ countries globally Turing cost £78 million 2025/26 - 43,000 students Erasmus cost £570 million (rising in 2028) - 26,000 students
How warped do you have to be to call a scheme which improves UK students’ opportunities, and attracts inward funding, a betrayal of the country!! Only the Tories are treacherous enough to do this.

Your regular reminder that our countryside from high moorlands to downland slopes are managed, by both man and by nature.
Much of the farming on the Moors is based on extraction. Soil nutrients have been mined over centuries. Adding back soil organic matter (carbon) is crucial. In this picture, a large round bale of hay has been spread, trees have been planted and the pasture managed for tall

@AgentP22 Her asking folk who likely earn far less than her £106,185 salary, many even less than a quarter, to contribute so she can continue to earn such a salary is disgraceful. She should have put money aside herself during the last five years to fund her 2026 election campaign.

A familiar poolside question at English Nationals. It often sparks good debate - and it deserves a deeper conversation. https://t.co/CNNgM4lxqd

There's me thinking that Scouts take both girls and boys?
@KarSugrue Your sex is decided at conception, and you cannot change it. Girl guiding is for females & should never have accepted biological males. No-one is persecuting anyone. The human race is divided into two sexes. It always has been. Why do the alphabet people think that can change?

For a country that gave us hi-speed rail travel, to think they had scheduled steam haulage long after us is very striking.

Very important thread demonstrating that the "errors" in the Peggie judgement relating to misleading or entirely false citations are not incidental. They *underpin* the legal reasoning (sic) justifying the judgement itself. Inept, certainly, but also scandalous.
In para.793, there is another non-existent quote, this time from the Supreme Court in Lee v Ashers Baking Co. Guess what? The word "hierarchy" does not appear in that judgment either. The judge can't just delete whole paragraphs. The error calls for an explanation.

The SNP is trying to reanimate the McCrone report conspiracy theory. If you want to know what really happened, read this:

A 1974 memo written by Scottish Office economist Gavin McCrone has acquired a mythical status for Scottish nationalists. But how much of the mythology is true?

Its a wet Saturday here in Sussex. The tree is getting dressed; all to the backdrop of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Now @MichaelJecks do your ‘tinners’ do the equivalent of the ‘old bamboo’ I wonder?
