A showcase of artwork by pupils of Gomersal Primary School. Mrs M Barrett - Specialist Art, Craft & Design Teacher and SLE for Art in Primary Education.
Y3 thought carefully about what a fossil of the future might look like? What are we leaving behind that will be discovered in millions of years? What could we imprint into clay to look like a future fossil? Why did the design change, when we began to create?
#primaryart
Y6 have created the
#IronMan
today inspired by
@chrismouldink
’s illustrations. We’re really looking forward to welcoming Chris into our school tomorrow. We’re working hard to develop a love of reading, writing and illustrating with an awareness of creative careers.

Our Year5 space pictures are bursting with different techniques. Printing, marbling, collage, salt resist, ink, watercolour, splattered poster paint and detailed drawing. This work has built up over many weeks with our sketchbooks used to practice skills and learn new techniques.
59 Y4 children with paint and posca pens + 1 Y6 child and an art technician with a glue gun + 2 days = a vibrant metropolis inspired by our local city, Leeds and a very proud art teacher.
Y4 have started building a city using cardboard, acrylic paint and posca pens. Watch our city grow as more children create colourful buildings.
#architecture
There has been some exceptionally careful drawing in Year 6 this week. With links to our science topic about the circulatory system, we have produced a detailed drawing of the heart, with da Vinci as our inspiration. A4 brown card, oil pastels and pencil crayon
@PaulCarneyArts
Our Y6 children are developing individual styles of working in their sketchbooks. Lots of research, exploring, mark making, designing and creating.
@accessart
@NSEAD1
Examples of Y6 independently using their sketchbook to explore ideas. Drawing upon knowledge of art materials and evaluations of their own practice, they had two weeks to plan their final piece. Resulting in 60 very different final outcomes.

Y4 have been creating artwork linking to their class story ‘How to train your dragon’
@CressidaCowell
We will wait for the clay to dry over the holiday, then fire in our kiln before painting in the detail (top tip - cabbage print makes great dragon skin)
@Artsmarkaward
@accessart
Our Year 5 children have thoroughly enjoyed turning themselves into an Ancient Egyptian, this week. Great use of oil pastels, felt pens, paint and POSCA pens on brown card (Not sure where the original source of inspiration is from, as there are many online)
@Artsmarkaward
Y6 have created these inked mono prints inspired by the seabirds found in the Isles of Scilly. Have you read ‘Why the Whales Came’ by Michael Morpurgo? Can you name the seabirds we have been studying? Y6 have thought carefully about their mark making techniques
@accessart
We currently have over 100 email and message requests from teachers and art leaders who would like to visit our school.
Please bare with me.
We are planning to hold an open day - where you will be able to visit and ask questions and take a look at our work.
Details soon:
We've been using 'double page spreads' in our sketchbooks for many years and would like to see more work like this in other books throughout our school. Thank you for all the inspiration on twitter at the moment... lots to think about.
@Artsmarkaward
After reading 'Why the Whales Came' by
#MichaelMorpurgo
Y6 created these monoprints of seabirds onto maps of the Scilly Isles. We enjoy linking our art to other areas of the curriculum.
One of my favourite illustrators Quentin Blake has created 10 NHS rainbow inspired illustrations. Could you use them as inspiration to create your own in a similar style?

Today, our Y3 children have made their own collaged backgrounds to print on. They then used a polystyrene block to create a relief print, inspired by ammonite fossils. A very busy and messy art room today.
Y3 have used their sketchbooks today to draw the human skeleton. Linked to their science topic, we have looked at sketches created by Leonardo da Vinci over 500 years ago, to inspire our work.

More skeleton studies with Y3 children. We looked at the work of Leonardo da Vinci and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Created by rolling white paint onto the paper then working into it with oil pastel. It was good to lay on the floor and work in a different way - stretching our muscles.
Our Year6 children have been working on their David Hockney inspired landscapes for several weeks. They’ve just finished adding more POSCA pen detail this morning. We think they’d make interesting settings for an adventure story.
This is what colour mixing looks like in our KS1 sketchbooks. Exploring primary colours, mixing and discovering, using a range of paint, sorting colours and using them for a purpose.

Year 5 have spent the day exploring and testing different media and techniques to create a range of images inspired by space. We will gather together our explorations to make a final piece over the next few weeks. We’ve really enjoyed the magic of marbling.
#sketchbook
Y6 are working with local artist,
@BlakerJo
today. We’ve learnt about the different tools she uses and are currently exploring how wood and bamboo can be used to make marks with ink. What happens if you wet the paper first? What happens if you spray water onto the ink?
Our Year 6 keyworker bubble have been learning about the life and work of Keith Haring, in school today. We made sketchbooks pages, mini zines full of facts and cardboard sculptures.
Y6 are working in the style of Keith Haring while listening to hip hop. We have used sketchbooks and are now working on our table tops with whiteboard markers. Sometimes your artwork isn’t permanent.

Y5 have been colour mixing today in preparation for our Amazon Rainforest project. How many different greens can you mix? Can you use a paintbrush with accuracy? Which type of paint shall we use? Just a few of the questions we have thought about while working in our sketchbooks.
Our Y6 Day of the Dead sewn sugar skulls are almost finished. After using sketchbooks for research, the children have used a template to cut out the felt. They have then developed sewing skills to embellish their skull and have added stuffing to the middle.
@WovenInKirklees
Our Y3 children will be developing their knowledge of shading today. These skills will then be used to create a tonal drawing of Stonehenge, to support their history topic.
Y3 have learnt about the life and work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. They compared his work to Leonardo da Vinci's and used their
#sketchbooks
to explore with oil pastels and paint sticks. We then began creating a best piece combining the different styles.

Sheila Hicks is an American artist known for her soft textile sculptures and woven work. What can you find out about this artist? What do are your thoughts about her work? Would you like to explore further? There will be an exhibition of her work at
@HepworthGallery
soon.
Y4 have been developing their drawing skills today. How can we add tone and texture to our drawings? What happens if we think about line, light and shade? Thank you
@accessart
for drawing our attention to Van Gogh’s postman sketch.

Y3 have learnt the difference between a tint, tone and shade and then applied this to their work. We also learnt how to wash a brush carefully when swapping from one colour to another. What is a silhouette and how does it differ from a shadow? What does the word hue mean?
Y3 have used their
#sketchbook
to research techniques used to create art in the Stone Age. They have mixed brown using primary colours, created a template of their hand, used fingers sponges and paint brushes, tested charcoal, drawn animals and have started to write annotations.
Y6 have learnt about the life and work of Keith Haring, today. We enjoyed reading a picture book written by his sister before drawing in his style on our table tops, using whiteboard markers. Great teamwork!
