Kofi Annan believed that snakebite envenoming - a neglected disease with 1/4 the mortality of malaria - needed to be addressed by the global community. This is his message: https://t.co/yAGTeqYXbD #InternationalSnakebiteAwarenessDay @DrTedros @PLOSNTDs @richardhorton1 @PeterHotez

Venomous #SnakeBite is a potentially life-threatening medical emergency due to snakebite envenoming following the bite of a snake 🐍 It can also be caused by having the snake venom sprayed into the eyes https://t.co/J1SLOnPZUV

Today is #SnakeBite Awareness Day. Q: What should I do if someone is bitten by a venomous snake 🐍? A: ⏱️ Time is essential - seek medical care without delay 💉 Get antivenom within 4-6 hours after bite ‼️ Immobilize the bitten person and keep them from moving around at all 🫁

@DrSoumyadeepB There is a WHO plan to improve access to antivenoms in selected African countries. There will be a need to mobilise significant resources. I haven't seen many donors stepping in... There's a big diphtheria outbreak in Nigeria and money is needed to procure antitoxin and vaccines.

Once again thinking about this truly crazy statistic: estimated ~lifetime risk of dying of snakebite in India is 1 in 250 (and close to 1 in 100 in a handful of areas). https://t.co/0h1lXEyYwT

Good punchline by Pr Jörg Blessmann in introduction of #SnakebiteMeeting held by @SBE_Research "In 2010, when you asked for funding for snakebite, people laughed at you. Now some progress has been made; today when you ask for funding, people just smile." #BeatNTDs 🐍

Snakebite is arguably one of our biggest hidden health crisis. Antivenom is the only effective way of treating a venomous snakebite. A snippet of a documentary we did about snakebites, antivenom production & snake conservation. Voice of the late R. Taylor #snakebiteawarenessday

#Snakebiteday22
