Don't worry, we will continue our snakebite research with the same passion and dedication. 🐍 But we're happy that our name now also acknowledges our other projects and research. We’re excited about this new chapter - stay tuned for more news!

Why the change? Our work does not only include snakebite but we also have projects, e.g. focussing on the implementation of point-of-care ultrasound (#POCUS) to improve clinical care. The new name reflects this broader focus. 🌍 3/4

So far, our focus has been on addressing the global burden of snakebites. This will not change. 🐍 We remain committed to #snakebite research, snakebite patients and to generate more and better clinical and epidemiological data. 2/4

3/4 📊 The findings were presented last week at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Herpetologie und Terrarienkunde (@DGHTeV) meeting in Bonn and the Conference on Tropical Medicine and Global Health #CTM24 in Düsseldorf (@Tropmed_DTG).

2/4 🇩🇪 In Germany, information about European viper bites has been scarce. That’s why, we collated and analyzed data on viper bites reported to poison control centers from 2012 to 2024 to provide the first estimate of the burden of European viper bites in Germany.

1/4 🐍 The European viper (Vipera berus) inhabits the largest geographical region of any snake globally. However, in many countries, little is known about where and when bites occur and their clinical impact. #snakebite #ISBAD

We're delighted to kick off #CTM24 with a workshop on ‘Venomous animals, toxins and climate - are they connected?’ together with the legendary toxinologist Prof Dr Mebs. The workshop led to interesting discussions on this important topic. Thanks to everyone who participated!

5/5 📚 That’s why we need more publications of detailed #snakebite cases in pregnant women! By documenting and sharing these cases, we can fill in the blanks and create better treatment guidelines for future patients.
