What’s your definition of a weed Andy? #organic
@SoilAssociation @JeremyClarkson @Gilchesters Hello Soil Association! Just checked your site and followed. As a farmer and soil nut, I applaud your cause. However I disagree on some of the above statements. 1. Biodiversity no doubt is higher, but I suspect this includes weed and pest species 2. Wont argue the bees. We don’t.

We went organic in 2000 and we’re fully organic by 2002. best decision ever. Might not work for everyone.
@BrettPage72 @emdus @JeremyClarkson @Gilchesters They did this overnight which is why they had the associated issues. We would never advocate for going fully organic overnight without adequate planning - we do advocate for a phased transition though.

Fields of monoculture like grasses/pastures, wheat/grains with no margins only provide living space for certain insects as they are very site specific. They need common weeds like thistles, dandelions, nettles. Here’s some essential reading
@Gilchesters We are doing all the right things. Including not going organic. Which doesn’t work.

As the family is bouncing around the house thanks to the reply from a much loved celebrity - organic does work. 2 hugely successful decades on I would not change it. But all the best for going down the regenerative road. It’s a good start for allowing nature & soils to recover.
