When Alberto Moreno was charging around the penalty boxes of Europe with his hands behind his back, I bet none of you realised that he was the future...
Max Aarons encroaches and clears the ball, impacting the game. It may feel harsh, but every player and manager was clearly shown that law before the season started using Aubameyang’s penalty in the North London Derby from last season. It’s a law and it was broken 🤷🏻♂️
Something like this makes me grateful to work with pundits who understand that the game is changing. We try to inform and while you may not agree with everything ours say, at least it isn’t this. 🦖🦕
She didn’t make it easy but very happy to introduce Ivy May Dugdale, born yesterday at 6:15pm. Spotify decided to play ‘Raise Your Glass’ as she entered the world, so please do! 🥂🥰
This image is Oxford Utd at our best. An academy product, a kid given a chance after leaving a PL academy, another well on his way back to the top, a loanee who has been here 2 weeks & just gets it, alongside a seasoned campaigner - all really enjoying winning games for Oxford.
You definitely don’t care what I think about England, but betting the house on the lad who plays balls in behind when you’re playing all the lads who come to the ball, then taking him off just before you bring on all the runners seems to lack a little bit of joined up thinking.
Seeing Michael Appleton get the Lincoln job is going to be like seeing your ex with a new man who you are convinced isn’t as good as you. Except they are. And you’re all going for dinner in the same restaurant on Saturday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp just mentioned Karl Robinson in his press conference regarding our 9 games in February and the demands placed on players. Lots of possible conclusions to take from it but the obvious one is that we are absolutely massive.

The Oxford game was rained off on Saturday so we went on a walk instead of watching the game. Woke up wanting 3 points and ended the day with a fiancée. Sets a dangerous precedent that Saturdays without football can be enjoyable but I’ll admit it on this occasion...
Send in a nice video if you get a result at Newcastle, they said. It’ll be good to promote Oxford United, they said. Absolutely two-footed in the £13 barnet trim 🙈😂
#TransferRequestOnMonday
Arsenal’s desire to spend a limited budget in positions where they are far more adequately stocked than others is endlessly fascinating. Signing attackers is exciting for fans & Emery wants more flair, but if you now don’t buy a CB because you’re lacking funds, you don’t improve.
At our worst this season we were divided and it was miserable. From board to manager to players to fans, everybody who has turned that into what we’ve got now, well in. I’m a shell and I don’t know how the ball stayed out, but that full time was what this club should be.
#oufc
Being a football supporter is essentially about backing your lads and this is as strong an example of that as we’ll ever get the chance to do. A guy from Cowley who went around the globe to force the door open in football management. I’m really excited for us and for him.

BREAKING: Oxford United set to announce Des Buckingham as club's new head coach. 38 year old is Oxford born, an ex

youth team player and first team coach and has been Mumbai City boss since 2021. Confirmation expected in next 24 hours. 🔊
I’m not sure why I turned to look back at our fans when we went 2-0, but seeing three tiers of yellow realise that this was really happening was a pretty cool sight.

We sadly lost our brother (left) last night after a 5-year battle with cancer. Absolute fighter who we are all very proud of. Photo is from Xmas Eve when he had no right to be alive, let alone doing what he did. We're gutted, but need to thank a couple of people...
I’m not saying the people of Valencia are excited about the prospect of turning over a 3-1 deficit to Arsenal, but they’ve given all their Uber cars bat wings...
Liverpool v Spurs at Anfield with Klopp & Poch is a strange fixture. Template seems to be Liverpool outplay flat Spurs first half & should kill game. Poch sorts things out at HT so Spurs dominate midfield. Then the last 20 is chaos. It’s a good watch.
I’m not sure this is the ‘man changes job’ story that will get the headlines tonight, but my time with S&V and BT Sport ended today after a great 7 years. From Braintree to Baku, it’s been a blast working with some brilliant people. Onto the next challenge...
Often think about the time Jamie Mackie and Sergio Aguero both scored in one of the most famous Premier League games of all time and then went in very different directions...
I’m biased here, but taking Ben Woodburn away from a starting role at Oxford to give him zero minutes of game football with the national team doesn’t feel like the best use of everybody’s time.
Nobody is going to say we don’t need two strikers in January to help him, but thought Mark Harris had a good day yesterday. Our best attacks involved him in the build-up and he’s in the right areas at the end more often than he used to be. Still think goals will come.
#oufc
GET IN THERE!!!! Said it for the last two months. Do our job and add the points up at the end of the season. God knows what the walking wounded will like for the semi-finals but for now, who cares?! What a bunch of lads!!!
The goal is brilliant and when you think what a draw with Cambridge at the start of the season would’ve done, Tyler’s had a huge impact. However, got to point out Kyle Joseph’s one man crusade to build Josh Murphy’s confidence whenever he can. For a loanee, he gets it.

Superb work, again. There’a an academic paper to be written on the growing influence of Welsh history in the Welsh footballing identity over the last ten years. This team are all over it and it’s really powerful. This is as explicit as it’s ever been and I’m all for it.
Really comprehensive coverage by MOTD2 on the handball. Interesting that the Bernardo Silva handball should be taken out of the equation, according to the refs. Strikes me as very strange that a goal can’t be scored with involvement of the arm, but a penalty can be gained.
Friend from Sky just sent the view from my seat as the boys warm up. Sitting alongside my brother who was fortunate enough to see us promoted against Wycombe while he was with us. Here’s hoping for similar good fortune.

When Des came back, I said something about football being about backing your lads and how great it could be. I say loads and you should ignore most of it, but having our lad hanging off a bus in our city to scenes like this is pretty special.
Really disappointed by Manning’s decision and judging by the statement, the club are too. Bristol City are a good club in a higher division, but it feels odd to jump ship so early. I’ve got faith in the club to get the next one right and keep the momentum, but it’s a pain.

Oxford United can confirm that Head Coach Liam Manning is to leave the club with immediate effect after deciding to join Bristol City.

So sorry to hear about Mickey Lewis. Such was his contribution to our club and community, I think we all met Mickey somewhere along the way and can say what a truly brilliant man he was. My thoughts are with his family and friends. We’ve lost a top man far too soon. RIP Mad Dog.
Aside from writing this in notes, I’m going to channel the lower league footballer I wish I’d become here. A dramatic pause after the departure post, I can now say that I’m delighted to start a new challenge at Premier League Productions. Looking forward to the season ahead...
As far as days where your manager walks out on you go, that’s a very good way to end it. Delighted for Murphy and Harris. Confidence is a great thing. It’s also a nice reminder that we’ve got a lot of very good footballers who a new manager will be lucky to work with.
#oufc
I like a signing early in the summer that gets you dreaming for the season to follow. Call me easily pleased, but a lad from Portugal who scored the goals, creates the goals and specialises in nutmegs works for me. A very promising start to a huge window for the club.
#oufc
I’m know I won’t change the East Stand here, but it’s so in my nerd niche that I have to say it. The reason Negru takes goal kicks short to Beadle is to stop the opposition pressing to close down one side of the pitch, which they can if Beadle passes left or right.
#oufc
Best wishes to one of the maddest footballers I’ve seen in an Oxford shirt. Capable of genius and bewilderment within seconds of one another. He needs regular football to piece it together and we couldn’t do that. But he scored a winner against Swindon. Those don’t get forgotten.
Well this particular Scot 🏴 travelled across the border to take in his first

cricket match 🏏 over the weekend & cheer on his English 🏴 cousins.
What a performance from

& a privilege to witness a magnificent sporting miracle!
Absolute bias in saying this, but delighted with this. Travelled the country with this guy while covering West Ham U21s earlier in both of our careers and can only say that he’s a great lad to have in a squad. Excites people when he’s on the ball and loves scoring goals.
Five wins in a row. 3rd in the table. Key players fit again and in good form. And yet if you know Oxford United, nothing will scare you more than MK Dons’ away form...
#oufc
Won’t lie, we’re in Wigan. It’s not like I dragged three non-Oxford supporting groomsmen up here for the day either. Nobody to blame but this is the start of a shambolic wedding build-up!
❌ GAME POSTPONED | United’s Sky Bet League One game at Wigan Athletic this afternoon has been postponed after seven of United’s players received positive lateral flow tests this morning.

At least it can’t get much worse I suppose. The few remaining fans clapped Barnsley off which probably tells you all you need to know about the gulf in quality today. They’ll be a good side.

Jamie Mackie is doing the ProAm with Frank Bruno on Soccer AM. He’s just missed a series of presentable opportunities, failed to convert two penalties and sworn on live TV. A walk down memory lane that has made me miss him dearly.

Thanks for all the messages over the last two weeks. As photo two shows, I have been too busy to reply to most messages about photo one, but your kindness has been much appreciated.
Manchester City again 😤 Probably shouldn’t complain against taking on the Champions of England but it’s a bit boring. Pep rolls up with 10 internationals and Phil Foden, takes it way too seriously and you don’t touch the ball. At least it’s a sell-out at home though.
What a week. If you’d told me we would see wins at Derby and Barnsley after what we saw at Cambridge, I’d have questioned your sanity. Absolutely superb. Probably Marcus McGuane’s best week in an Oxford shirt.
#oufc
Absolutely none of that can be considered good for your health. Delighted for everybody, but now there’s work to do. Anybody know if the Lincoln keeper is still waving at the fans with a silly grin on his face? Would like to know.
#oufc
The JR, Churchill and care staff have been phenomenal. We owe them everything. He was also an Oxford fan.
@t3dkath
sorted a signed shirt which had pride of place in his room. Despite everything, he was made up with the win yesterday. Shirt above his bed, still smiling. Thanks. X
David de Gea is a world class goalkeeper, no question, but only the Alderweireld save has come close to stretching him here. Decent case for calling it an error if any of the others go in. This is nothing compared to that night at the Emirates.
Nothing says football is back like losing your new signing after 20 minutes, conceding while down to 10 during the injury and then letting the lad who scores goals from 20 yards do it again. Making it too easy for what are clearly a good team.

@C_Hannan7
I can’t get my head around a song that tries to take the piss about getting to a Champions League Final. Feels like it’s missing the point of football a bit. I’m going to really struggle when City get there one day and insist they’re not fussed about it.
Pitched in December, delayed to the extent I thought it may never happen, but delighted we got here. Immensely grateful to
@TrentAA
&
@andrewrobertso5
for buying into what we wanted to achieve and being so open. Loads more to come, but really proud of how this has come together.
Last season,
@TrentAA
and
@andrewrobertso5
provided 31 Premier League goals or assists! 🤯
"Listen, in my day this never, ever, EVER happened!"
🧠
@rioferdy5
gets Liverpool's flying full-backs to explain exactly how they did it - fascinating!

Loved watching
@RyanLedson97
play for Oxford. Mainly because he played how I like to think I’d play for the club if I was lighter, quicker & better at footy. Basically, he legged it everywhere, smashed lads for fun & celebrated like a fan. Deserves every success. Cheers Lego 👌
Thanks for the various messages today. Much appreciated. Thoughts are with Glenn, a true gentleman and treasured colleague, his family and all those affected by what we saw in Leicester this evening. We all love the job we do but today has been a horrible one.
I’d say that slipping into the relegation zone by losing 3-0 to the team who are bottom of the league could put your position as manager in jeopardy. I’m not convinced that it will, but it probably should.
So,
#oufc
. One of my favourite away days in a while. Walsall one of the worst sides you could ever wish to face, but that’s some win. Absolute proof that the players want to fight for this manager as well. A brilliant away end too.
To not win for months and get to the final 3 games with our fate in our own hands is miraculous. No time to be moping around on Tuesday. It’s massive. If we don’t get the job done from the three games we have left, we deserve to go. Thought we’d get here needing snookers.
#oufc
My first family dog was a rescue. I always said I’d give another rescue dog a home when I could. Today is that day. Maisie here, ready to be cute and an absolute terror in equal measure.
Finally got the keys to the house today. Back in the countryside and almost, almost Oxfordshire. Massive thanks to
@laurenherrick
for helping along the way. Dirty Leeds, but a highly recommended financial advisor!
I know it’s an U21 opponent, but Josh Murphy has been excellent tonight. I’m going to die on the hill that he’s got a contribution to make to this side.
#oufc
The more I think about it, the higher yesterday ranks on the list of really good away days. A great end, a new song, everybody pulling in the same direction, a little bit of unnecessary jeopardy to make the full time whistle mean something. And this photo.
#oufc
If there is an argument for removing U23 sides from the Trophy, it's Chelsea TV. Just discussed where their 2nd string should play in the pyramid without the slightest acknowledgement of what that would mean for anybody else. Only the importance of making Chelsea stronger.
Played in goal, got one of the daftest red cards ever and scored from 30 yards when nobody wanted him to shoot. Quite the highlight reel. A really good guy who deserves regular football and the promotion did for that. Hope he fulfils his potential and we’ve got a sell-on…

Oxford United can confirm that Oisin Smyth has joined St Mirren on a permanent basis.
Thank you for all your hard work and we wish you well in the future 💛
