@kurt13warner I was an assistant coach during my boys' high school years, and it was a continual battle: another meeting, longer practices, pre-game, post-game... I admire coaches' commitment, don't get me wrong, but I suspect we're past the point of diminishing return.

It’s because kids have been trained to think if you aren’t a starter, or a star player you should go do something else and not waste your time. Gone too often are the days of being part of something bigger then yourself.
According to a story on AP today ... Indiana has the fourth biggest decline in girls high school basketball participation since the year 2000, down 39% .. over 4,000 less girls playing! In the US, numbers are down 45%. I wrote a column on this a year ago.
