If you care about controlling a country, not its health, breaking everything makes sense. 100% of a broken US appeals more than 33% of a prosperous US. Running the US like a private equity firm means hostile takeover, followed by "buy, strip, flip" tactics, are logical practice.

New year, new group website! 0-11 members in a semester. A newly renovated lab; stay tuned for shiny pictures of the space and toys.

Congratulations Eric! Clarity in thought and scientific communication inspires and educates.
Eric N. Jacobsen, the 2024 recipient of the prestigious Robert A. Welch Award in Chemistry, received his award at the Welch Award Reception and Dinner on October 21, 2024 at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston.

Yesterday 1/2 of the chem department vacated so the Lovinger Lab Air handlers could go up safely. Heading towards unboxing the lab toys day.

(4) avoid generalities like the plague "I'm interested in your research", (5) articulate clearly/concisely/with specifics what your career goals are, why they would be advanced by the position in that specific group, and what skills/experience you bring/why it would be valuble.

Unsolicited Postdoc app advice; (1) before applying identify all funding mechanisms to fund your position=initiative/effort, (2) apply 1-2year before graduation=planning skills/time to make space in group and craft projects and apply for funding, (3) use graphics not words ...

I am indeed an expert at speaking ...... re Biocatalysis & Enzyme Engineering, I am an enthusiastic speaker looking to humbly proffer some ideas from Synthetic Phys. Org. Chem. (SPOC) and learn from the community.

I'm excited to welcome the first official Lovinger Lab member, incomparable chemist, and equine aficionado Dr. Anna Davis! @radscientist_ thanks for agreeing to unbox the toys and explore the liminal space between imagination and reality.
so so SO excited to finally be able to drop some personal news‼️ I’ll be moving up to west lafayette next month to start my postdoc helping @GabrielLovinger start up his ✨new lab✨ @PurdueChemistry. incredibly grateful for the opportunity and SO pumped to get back in the lab!

I appreciate the warm welcome and neighborly treatment. I'm excited to start working with the bright graduate student I've been meeting.
Welcome new faculty members Lee R. Liu and Gabriel Lovinger @GabrielLovinger who join us this semester! ⤵️ https://t.co/4uLVxczGn2

First faculty meeting ever yesterday! Was it exciting, Byzantine, or banal? To me, thrilling and surprisingly concise.

I really lucked into joining @PurdueChemistry right as the HTE Catalysis Center came online, so the Lovinger Lab is right next to all the shiny toys. Warm up those thumbs for multi-channel pipetting and thank you everyone who made this possible.
Check out our newly equipped High Throughput Experimentation Catalysis Center in BRWN. This state-of-the-art lab will drive innovation, enhance research productivity, and contribute to new discoveries in chemical catalysis.

Literally shiny completly new lab, $$$$$$ of all new everything + DIY office name tag suspended by partially adhered sticky notes. There must be some deeper lesson here about the human condition, the folly of capitalism, the transient nature of life, or social media artifice...🤣

#Chemtwitter, what is the best instrument for high throughout UV-Vis measurements of organic molecules? Looking to purchase for organic reaction screening purposes.

Thanks @JacobsenLab, the freedom to pursue a yen for the counterintuitive while surrounded by engaged and driven colleagues has been wonderful. A special environment and a special group of people for sure!
Congratulations to @GabrielLovinger and Marcus Sak @msh_yi on their paper in @Nature! A HBD catalyst accelerates an SN2 pathway despite H-bonding to the nucleophile by preorganizing the ion pair into a reactive conformation, just like an enzyme would! https://t.co/hE12GPNyPw

Marcus Sak is a real force of @Nature! The most talented young synthetic physical organic chemist I have met and one of the most versatile researcher I know.
My first GS project! Against SN2 dogma, a H-bond-donor catalyst accelerates ion-pair collapse by positioning the Nu/Ephile precisely on the SN2 trajectory. Couldn't have done this without the inimitable @GabrielLovinger

First @Nature paper. How do you catalyze ionic SN2, render Arbuzov reactions catalytic/enantioselective, access P-chiral building blocks, & more? Take a page from enzymes & catalyze geometric reorganization. Only possible w/ the amazing Marcus Sak @msh_yi

Nature - A small-molecule (646 Da) hydrogen-bond-donor catalyst accelerates the SN2 step of an enantioselective Michaelis–Arbuzov reaction by recapitulating the geometric preorganization...

Want to become a synthetic physical organic chemist applying modern tools to reaction discovery & catalysis? The Lovinger Lab might be a good fit. We draw inspiration from reactive intermediates as branching points in chemical reaction space to enable new reactivity & selectivity
