Wouldn't it be more constructive if most of our collective labor went to making sure we have a functioning infrastructure and everyone's basic needs are fulfilled instead of being wasted on the further enrichment of the capitalist class?

Yes. My turn: Does Jeff Bezos and his billionaire buddies who try to buy our elections and government officials (and news) really believe in democracy?

The true motivation for this rising fascism is not Trump's ego, it's that AI is funneling more wealth to the top than ever, and will completely economically destroy the bottom 99%, and an authoritarian government will be necessary to protect the super rich from the public

So sick of the people who weaponized identity politics to crush the left now pretending their hollow identity politics were actually the left wielding power. Centrists are nothing more than fascist enablers.
@jonathanchait Progressives have had exactly zero power for longer than I've been alive. The exact reason we're where we are today is that the Democratic Party's leadership has fought harder to crush its own left flank than they've fought against right-wing fascism.

Your lived experience is overreacting to people just living their lives because hateful propaganda has rotted your brain
@FuckYourProfits @jonathanchait It’s my lived experience in my city (Portland, Oregon). Drug decriminalization, handing out tents and drug paraphernalia so people can live in the streets downtown, non-enforcement against rioters, teaching gender ideology in elementary school - these things happened here.

Billionaires will destroy all life on Earth a million times faster than the sun
Elon Musk: …Eventually, all life on Earth will be destroyed by the sun. It's gradually expanding, we do at some point have to be a multi-planetary civilization because Earth will be incinerated… @Acyn

If a politician called for the govt to round up every billionaire, and seize and redistribute all their assets, there would be unanimous bipartisan opposition, but when even worse is done to powerless communities, half the country cheers it on and the other half does nothing.

Capitalist individualism has destroyed home ownership similarly. What should be treated as a societal good was instead sold as the path to personal financial stability, a path denied to most people now as more and more housing is gobbled up by corporate landlords.

The people who are happily trading liberty for the illusion of security right now are doing so because hearing people speak Spanish causes their shitty diapers to overflow.

Irrelevant. The right has been moving the Overton window towards fascism for a while, and before you know it their propaganda machine will have manufactured 60% approval for this, but only 40% approval for something far worse, which they'll be doing anyway because they don't care
Trump moving the national guard into cities is a political loser. ~60% of Americans oppose it. Why? Voters don't buy Trump's argument over crime. Instead, they say Trump's taken his eye off the ball with too much focus on putting troops in cities & not enough on lower prices.

I'm no mathematician but removing the top 55 real estate profiteering CEOs would also free up the housing market and lower rent for Americans, and it wouldn't require a massive fascist gestapo terrorizing the public and ruining millions of lives.

They're not "trying to enforce immigration law," they're trying to install a dictatorship.

What happens when you don't drain your national resources on fighting endless wars, bombing everywhere you see, and financing other countries' militaries and their multiple wars:
NEW: China officially opens the world’s tallest bridge, completing the project in under 4 years. The bridge features a restaurant at the top, a whopping 2600 ft above the river. The bridge not only cuts a 2-hour drive to 2 minutes, but also features as a theme park with a glass

People are calling this a symptom of anti-intellectualism but it's really just a symptom of capitalist individualism. Instead of treating education as the societal good it should be, it's been sold as a means to personal financial success, and it's failing at that completely.
UNITED STATES: The share of Americans who say college education is 'very important' has fallen from 75% in 2010, down to 35% in 2025, according to Gallup research.
