Let's talk about where we are, where we're going, what I'm doing, and how we can continue working together
Thursday, April 25th
6:00 PM
260 Eastern Parkway
RSVP:
See you there!!!
To each and every doctor putting his or her life at risk to save the lives of others, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
You are the unwavering front line soldiers, angels and heroes in this war.
You make New York proud.
#NationalDoctorsDay
It was a long wait, but today we can finally say that we did it! Together, we made history by electing a socialist nurse in the middle of the worst pandemic in 100 years.
Everyone pointing to immigrants saying “how can we spend money on them when we have homeless Americans?” bring it in for a quick sec. I wanna let you in on a little secret… 👇🏾👀
…the people who won’t spend a dime to help the homeless are the same ones trying to trick you into thinking immigrants are the problem are the same ones jacking up your rent are the same ones who won’t tax the rich are the same ones who give billions in corporate handouts…
People saying Palestinians can’t be given full rights & integrated into a single state without putting Israelis at constant risk of violence should know that they’re using 1 of the exact same arguments used against freeing the slaves. EXACT SAME. It’s racist to the core.
…Nothing is ever going to change till you wise up and stop falling for this. NY economy is richer than most countries. But instead of going after the top 0.1% who made billions profiting from the pandemic, they got you all riled up about $17 for people who have nothing smh
If ya’ll go back to brunch we’re going to go through this all over again in four years.
Stay organized. The struggle against fascism and the fight for a better future is just getting started.
New: Gov. Hochul announces that she is deploying 750 National Guard members into the NYC subways to conduct bag checks, in addition to another 250 law enforcement members. She is also proposing a bill to ban people convicted of a violent crime on the subway from public transit
Oh AND they’re also the same ones who spend billions on endless war and bombing civilians. THAT we got money for. But when it comes to healthcare, education, public transit, housing, immigration, the arts, climate change, infrastructure, social security, poverty they like
Get you an Assemblywoman who will finish a shift at the hospital, go home to switch our her PPE, and then head over to a protest.
Let’s show the hell up ✊🏾
1. Ranked choice voting is good for democracy.
2. The people of NYC voted overwhelmingly in favor of ranked choice voting.
Any attempt to undo this critical democratic reform is not only wrong but against the will of the people.
This morning I woke up as the OFFICIAL ASSEMBLYPERSON for District 57! 🤯🤯🤯
And then made myself some tasty pancakes. 🥞
Wishing everyone a Happy New Years! 🎉
The justice system worked exactly how it was designed to today.
White men went unpunished for murdering a black women.
Our system of laws policing are designed to brutalized black and brown people and shield their assaulters from retaliation.
BREAKING: Mayor Adams basically conceding New York City is done because of illegal immigration and warns New Yorkers illegals will flood ALL neighborhoods.
From March 18 to May 15, New York’s 118 billionaires saw their wealth increase by $44.9 billion.
Just Michael Bloomberg alone saw a $10.5 billion increase.
Our state budget gap is $6 billion.
@NYGovCuomo
🗣TAX🗣THE🗣RICH🗣
I can’t get anyone from the city on the phone to help constituents facing eviction because we’re spending all our taxpayer money on an army of brutal fascists who are deployed to attack children who want to end genocide. This is NYC under Mayor Adams.
Breaking: NYS Judge James Burke rules NYPD can now keep anyone (peaceful protestors arrested for curfew and criminal looters) detained for over 24 hours given these are extraordinary times. “It’s a crisis within a crisis", he said. "All writs are denied, BK, BX and manhattan"
I stand in solidarity with
@rontkim
who is currently being harassed by our Governor for telling the truth. Governor Cuomo willfully misreported the facts regarding elderly people in order to justify the return of COVID-positive patients to nursing homes
2 white boys called my sweet 22 month son “skunky” b/c he looked “stinky” and “dirty”. David was the only chocolate boy in the park. This was not in TN, AL, GA or even PA. This was in Park Slope, BK. Racism is violent and pervasive. Stop the cycle of hate and teach/do better.
After a year of silence, I was so excited to tell my nursing home bound dad that I won an election, about my marriage, and his final grandson. As he held David, he struggled to remember my name. One year too late, his Alzheimer's claimed all memories of me. A COVID-19 casualty.
We're still at the BoE waiting for them to officially scan the ballots, but the absentee count in our race is over.
And based on our internal tally, we finished ahead by over 300 votes - more than enough to avoid a recount & ensure our victory.
Socialism won.
To whoever vandalized our mural on 5th Avenue: nice try.
@NYC_DOT
has already fixed it.
The
#BlackLivesMatter
movement is more than words, and it can’t be undone.
Capitalism is racist. Uber is racist.
Every day they refuse to classify drivers as employees is another day drivers have to go without racial discrimination and harassment protections.
Cut this bullshit.
It’s simple. If you tolerate racism, delete Uber.
Proud to see these billboards go up in select cities across the country. Now is the time for all people and organizations to stand up for what is right.
Also proud that Uber is a sponsor of this Friday’s March on Washington.
Every SNAP application that is delayed is someone not eating, many working full time on empty stomachs and not being able to make ends meet, sending their kids to bed with growling tummies, with hunger pains
It is shocking and cruel beyond words, even for this administration
The mayor's management report is out for the first full year under Eric Adams. One statistic that immediately jumps out: the timeliness rates for applications for cash assistance and SNAP (food stamps) at 29 percent & 40 percent, versus 95 percent & 93 percent in 2019.
Real Talk: When I first found out Charles and I were expecting last fall, I cried everyday. I was in school, running a campaign, working fulltime and living with my parents. I am a hard worker but I kept thinking how much my pregnancy would slow me and my supporters down.
On May 16, 2021 I gave birth to my son, David Preston Forrest. We are so grateful that he was born healthy and he is doing very well.
I am honored to be able to share with you all a photo of him, as well as some thoughts I have had since his birth.
DISCOVERY is CASE EVIDENCE. Don’t let the legal lingo fool you out of plain common sense. You can’t accuse a person and keep them in jail without evidence aka discovery. A reverse on discovery/evidence reform is a reverse on common sense and fair justice.
I’m not perfect but at least I can promise my constituents that I will never stand next to Mike Johnson to call for the continued slaughter of civilians, no matter how much PAC money is on the line
According to Gigi (my mom), this picture is the single most important thing that happened yesterday.
If my mom had her way, everyone in Haiti with a WhatsApp would see
@GovKathyHochul
holding David.
We can’t have a nominee who has voted to:
- Block the Brady Bill 5 times
- Allow guns on trains and planes
- Protect gun manufacturers from lawsuits
- Prohibit funding for research into stopping gun violence
Unlike Bernie Sanders, I will always take the fight to the gun lobby.
I wanted y'all to know that I’m going to go a bit quiet these next two weeks. I’ve been going nonstop working and running these past few months and I need some time off. I’m looking forward some rest so I can come back fully charged and ready to continue the fight. ✊🏾
♥️ Phara
Landmarks across the state are lit blue tonight in support of all the healthcare workers and all the essential personnel on the frontlines in our battle against
#COVID19
.
We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for all they do.
They are heroes.
#LightItBlue
#NewYorkTough
What offends them about Rashida Tlaib is her bravery, morality, and humanity. Because when put up against her example it’s crystal clear how utterly devoid of these basic qualities many of our so-called leaders are. They don’t like that.
I am the only Palestinian American serving in Congress, and my perspective is needed here now more than ever. I will not be silenced and I will not let anyone distort my words.
I’m from Detroit, where I learned to speak truth to power, even if my voice shakes.
What Israel did today is exactly what everyone who’s been calling for a ceasefire has been trying to stop. We saw this coming. We urged deescalation. We were threatened and attacked in response.
Now a hospital has been bombed and hundreds are dead. It is indefensible.
Thank you to the people of the 57th Assembly District for trusting me to be your next Assemblymember.
When I go to Albany in January, I’ll need a movement behind me to fight for the future we all deserve.
Join that movement by joining DSA 🌹
My interview in
@jacobin
today about the ongoing crisis of COVID deaths in our correctional facilities, why we need to close Rikers,why Less Is More matters, and how we end mass incarceration.
Earlier today 17 tenants & tenant organizers were arrested protesting the barbaric evictions currently being carried out in NY. They have been held at the
@NYPD84Pct
for hours. There’s a tenant over 70 there who hasn’t been given water or the chance to use the bathroom (1/2).
Reminder to the NYPD and the mayor: police violence against student protestors is unacceptable. New Yorkers will not stand for authoritarian thugs creating another Kent State in our city.
NEW -
@NYCMayor
says Columbia protest has been "co-opted" and is going to share their intel, he says at 1 Police Plaza. He advises students involved in the protest to leave the area and tells parents to tell their kids to leave "before the situation escalates."
I told y'all we would update everyone with important information when we got it.
As of today, the number of absentee ballots RETURNED (14,744) in AD 57 has surpassed the in-person vote total (14,414) on election day.
This race ain't over ✊🏾
As a nurse - I first want to tell everyone to make sure you’re washing your stands and taking necessary precautions!
But as a socialist - I want to talk about how this pandemic affecting our country and exposing deep inequalities in our society. (1/7)
I am so honored and proud to have the chance to represent my community. Our win is a victory for every person who is struggling in this state. It is a win for nurses without protective equipment, for Black and Brown people targeted by police violence and chronic disinvestment.
The MTA hiking fares to $2.90. Not being able to pay for transit is the the
#1
barrier to CUNY students graduating. And who do we think is going to power NY’s economy in the future?
They are robbing the future to let the rich off the hook and calling it “fiscal responsibility”
I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who took a leap of faith and endorsed our campaign. This amazing grassroots coalition is truly responsible for our incredible victory.
OMG the avg rent in brooklyn is up 11.9% from this time last year 😱
literally every advocate, indicator, study, expert is screaming “we need good cause” at the top of their lungs
and the political establishment just be like 🙉🙈 while the city crumbles around it… smh…
It's a win for immigrants deprived of their democratic rights, for tenants who can’t make rent, and for the thousands of unemployed people struggling to survive. Our win is a rejection of politics as usual. This win shows that our time is now.
How quickly we seem to have moved on from Jordan Neely. We cannot allow ourselves to only move from outrage to fresh outrage. That’s why I co-authored this op-ed. We must do the work to change the systems that led us here to ensure it never happens again
This weekend, New York City Police officers have violently assaulted protestors throughout our city. They attacked and pepper sprayed protestors without provocation, including two of Brooklyn’s own state representatives,
@zellnor4ny
and
@asw
. (1/10)
WE DID IT!!!! New York is the first state to eliminate copays on insulin for all state-regulated health plans!!!! It has been such a long fight to get here and I’m so proud of this historic victory!!!
✊🏾🥰😍🥰😍🥰✊🏾
Dear Real Estate Lobbyists, Please stop wasting our collective rent money to buy whack politicians and fruitless elections. The biggest loser on Tuesday was YOU! You should spend the rent on actual services for tenants. They vote for socialists. Sincerely, Phara
Statement from
@CramptonHays
on the situation on Rikers. Sources tell
@GloriaPazmino
that
@GovKathyHochul
will sign the “Less is More” legislation limiting the re-incarceration of people for minor parole violations.
@NewYorkLtGov
was bill sponsor.
how to solve a homelessness crisis according to eric adams:
step 1) swag
step 2) raise rents
step 3) veto any attempts to help people get off the street and into housing
step 4) more swag
step 5) crisis solved
INBOX:
@NYCMayor
vetoes the City Council's entire CityFHEPS voucher reform package — the first consequential veto he has issued as mayor.
He claims the reforms "clearly exceeds the Council’s legal authority."
Dancing with my sisters!
Proud to stand with striking nurses who are putting themselves on the FRONTLINES for us. My fellow nurses are striking for the basic needs to do their jobs. Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital needs to do what’s right and agree to the nurses lead contract
She's 9; there is no justification for this kind of abuse other than to terrorize and traumatize our youth.
"You're acting like a child,"
"I am a child!"
"This is your last chance, otherwise pepper spray's going in your eyeballs."
"Just spray her."
I know we wanted a clear answer, but we need to wait until every vote has been counted. We will update you all with new information as soon as we get it. For now, take a well deserved rest because our fight isn’t over, it’s just beginning.
Read our statement on last night 👇
I urge my colleagues in the senate to vote against LaSalle! We need a pro-choice pro-labor pro-decarceration judge on the court! Call your senator right away and urge them to vote no on LaSalle!
In Oct/Nov,
@GovKathyHochul
came to our communities to curry Black votes. This week she's tried to push through bail reform rollbacks & just nominated a former prosecutor to our highest court
It's indefensible to ask for Black votes and then work to incarcerate us. No on LaSalle
Last week I was proud to be endorsed by the
@NYWFP
for November's general election. However, it seems not everyone was happy about this. Just a few days later my opponent announced he would contest the general election on the WFP line.
So we're fighting back.
