I speak on behalf of all the UK when I say we are not thankful to Elon Musk and actually think he’s an awful cunt.

It’s always “taxpayer handouts” when it’s the poor - never when it’s corporations, MPs’ expenses, or billionaires dodging tax. The real myth is that the millions of disabled and struggling people are masterminding scams while in reality, the rich quietly hoover up the money.
@areyoflight Yeah I'm going to believe that everyone on benefits is receiving them legitimately and not at all playing the system or didn't cause their own poverty through their own poor choices! If you think the govt is being careful with taxpayer funded handouts, you'll believe anything

My neighbour was disabled and worked on a building site.” “I work 80 hours a week and I’m disabled.” Cool. One person’s experience is not a medical standard. Disabilities aren’t identical, capacity isn’t universal, and using one disabled person to shame another is ableism. One

“Get on with it, mentals!” And if that doesn’t work, you can always drink yourself to death like my grandfather did during Prohibition, or take an overdose like my grandmother attempted. Seriously, fuck social moralism.
I am tired of "mental illness." I am sick of people claiming that they cannot do normal things required of normal people in life because they have "anxiety" or "depression" or "ADHD." This is bullshit. If you lived in any other time in history (or in many other places in

The level of contempt & hate sick & disabled people face daily; Pple revelling in pts being charged £50-120 for 3 sentences/signature for a disabled bus pass, being refused DVLA/PIP sig/letter, or desiring people have no help at all. The assumption it could never happen to them

Labour once had a dream of supporting all people from the cradle to the grave, now that dream is extinguished. If you’re disabled from SEND education to employment, support is being taken away, whilst you are gaslit to believe it’s your fault for being disabled .

'One in six autistic pupils have not attended school since September.' 62% reported this was due to mental health issues. One of the key causes reported was "strict rules for minor issues (&) rigid school uniform policies." These approaches don't suit SEND kids. Or any child.

@SpcialNdsJungle Is she saying special need children are children who don’t have to make an effort OR lazy children are not special need? Or both? It’s CRAP isn’t it Amanda, you need to take responsibility for your gross failure of supporting children with needs not run away from it

Benefits cheat caught costing the taxpayer £3250 a month in housing for an unnecessary second home, despite earning over 100k a year! Oh wait, no it was Helen Whately. It's okay when they do it. Phew.

"A Labour Govt headed by a human rights lawyer wants to protect councils that fail to meet their legal responsibilities to some of the nation’s most vulnerable young people.... by ending the statutory right of parents to challenge wrongful decisions made by faceless officials."
Is this really why Labour MPs think they were elected: to strip some of the most vulnerable children in the country of their right to a decent start in life? My @theipaper column on looming SEND reforms

So, when people say that relationships are the most important factor in schools, they're right. It's not rocket science. We have evolved to be with and learn from people we safe around and people we trust. The best teachers and school leaders know this. End

🧵 For the c. 2million+ years, children learned from their parents/ extended families. 200 years ago we created an industrialised model of education where children were taught by people outside of their families. This is why it matters than children like their teachers...

As Prof. Louis Cozolino says, children need to feel 'protected and connected' in order for their brains to learn. Otherwise most of their cognitive energy will be spent being vigilant because they dont feel safe enough to let their guard down to explore.

When teachers are very strict, or harsh, when rules feel very punitive, when there is little warmth or care, don't be surprised that children don't want to turn up to school or seem disengaged when they are there.

It's why it matters that children feel their teachers like them. All the 'science of learning' comes secondary to this fundamental fact about humans and the hyper-social animal we are. Children HAVE to feel safe and secure in order to expore and exploit their environmental

🧵I sense a long overdue shift in approaches to KS1. For quite some time, the move into KS1 has been abrupt & jarring with many v. formal approaches for children only just five. For those long(er) in the tooth, this felt frankly wrong,as old money infant teaching was sidelined.

This! I’m always startled by how willing some of the loudest voices are to display their lack in understanding and knowledge so publicly.
For some this invited scorn again & a badging of play as somehow synonymous with discovery learning or prog approaches; this part always makes me smile as there is nothing more research informed than a classroom that blends instruction & play in a tapestry of child dev & Cogsci

Little children are hard wired to move, to play, to interact, to talk, to explore, as well as to listen and watch and practise. For those who have known this all along and resisted the move towards a very formal KS1, it would appear the tide is turning.
