President of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA
@afa_cwa
, representing 50K at 19 airlines. Proud Union Flight Attendant since 1996. (she/her) Anti-fascist
SkyWest Airlines illegally fired Flight Attendant union activists Shane Price and Tresa Grange. We demand that
@SkyWestAirlines
immediately rehire Shane and Tresa and cease efforts to intimidate workers who are legally working to form a union.
My cab driver just asked me if I was tired of the masks (we’re both wearing one) then he said, “I’m tired of the masks especially in the heat, but I’m wearing it because I don’t want to get sick and I don’t want to get anyone else sick. It’s a basic respect issue.”
This is offensive and dangerous. Stop perpetuating this gross myth. Not every union member has union healthcare plans that protect them. Those that do have it, have to fight like hell to keep it. If you believe in Labor then you’d understand an injury to one is an injury to all.
There are 14 million union workers in America who have fought hard for strong, employer-provided health benefits. Medicare for All Who Want It protects their plans and union members' freedom to choose the coverage that's best for them.
"People's lives are not commodities." This is what we must drive home. In our current system, our families are traded as liabilities on a Wall Street balance sheet. We need universal care, so our health is no longer subject to a corporate profit margin. You go,
@AOC
! I’m with you
ENOUGH! This was TODAY on a four hour flight. This is not okay. Masks must be mandated by DOT/HHS in airports and on airplanes. Essential travel only, with proper PPE.

Getting multiple reports
@Delta
is telling workers across work groups that they should come to work w/ symptoms even if someone in the household tested positive. And test positive workers should come to work after 5 days if the fever is below 100.9, even if still testing positive
We have told Congress that any stimulus funds for the aviation industry must come with strict rules: continued paychecks for every worker and NO stock buy backs, dividends, executive bonuses, broken contracts, or interference with organizing.

Biden: “If every investment banker in New York went on strike, nothing would much change in America. If every plumber decided to stop working, every electrician, the country comes to a halt. I mean, literally, not figuratively, literally, it comes to a damn halt."
“This was a 100 percent peaceful march and the police fired rubber bullets and tear gas.”
@AliVelshi
“There was zero warning. They lined up on the street and started firing.”
Flight Attendants have been told that
@AOC
and
@SenMarkey
’s
#GND
resolution will ground all air travel. That’s absurd. Climate change itself is the job killer. We need everyone at the table to drive solutions that put workers first & leaves no one behind.
If you're surprised to hear
@AOC
standing up for
@MineWorkers
pensions, don't be. She understands the importance of keeping our commitments to working people, and the

will ensure none of these communities get left behind.

Miners’ Protection Act S. 27 and HR 935
Interesting
@AOC
riff on how, while the New Deal prioritized whites, the Green New Deal would focus first on distressed people. "We fix the pipes in Flint first. We fix the electrical grid in Puerto Rico first. And we fully fund the pensions of coal miners in West Virginia."
Thank you,
@ewarren
. From the bankruptcies that led to negotiating this contractual benefit, to supporting Delta Flight Attendants today in locking it in w/ a union contract, you’ve been a constant force of strength for our union. Thank you for fighting alongside us every time!
Profit-sharing is an important and valuable benefit. I stand with the workers organizing with
@afa_cwa
for a union contract that protects this and all of their other hard-earned benefits!
Selene Saavedra Roman is a DREAMer with approved status, no criminal history, and simply doing her job as a certified U.S. Flight Attendant. But she was detained by ICE and has been held for over a month with no end in sight.

For profit healthcare doesn’t work,
@PeteButtigieg
. It’s killing people & putting working people in financial ruin. The whole country knows it. Collective bargaining is about problem solving. Don’t use unions to promote division - that’s only good for the profiteers.

I love this fighter for justice. We are all stronger for the leadership of

A note to anyone who wants to use union members as a wedge to oppose
#MedicareForAll
:
@UAW
has one of the best plans in the country, but management can still use it to hold workers hostage.

puts power back in our hands.

NEW: GM is cutting off striking workers' health care coverage effective today. The UAW will now pick up the bill for their members' continued healthcare through COBRA. This development shows just how costly this strike will be to both sides.
Last night someone asked me who is up next… Nearly 24,000 Flight Attendants are organizing to form their
@DeltaAFA
union. Meet part of the Atlanta committee.
This is inexcusable,

The nurses are exhausted and dying trying to care for Americans. Tens of millions are being pushed into poverty. Frontline workers can’t believe anyone even gives a damn anymore. Hello America! When is it time to stop making it work? We have to take seriously a mass labor strike.
Don't let anyone tell you real help isn't possible. Don't let them tell you it isn't possible here. I know it doesn't feel possible, but it is. If we act together.
French government to continue paying up to 84% of salaries for furloughed workers "until next summer" due to prolonged economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.
Again, no. DOT is effectively the labor department for aviation - 80% union. It plays a major role in transportation trade too. We do not need a union buster setting the rules for workers in aviation. That just doesn’t reflect
@JoeBiden
’s deep commitment to workers & our unions.
Axios: The president-elect is strongly considering Rahm Emanuel to run the Department of Transportation, weighing the former Chicago mayor’s experience on infrastructure spending against concerns from progressives over his policing record.
Wow. This is Bezos pushing his BS philanthropy culture on his underpaid employees. This guy never misses a chance to squeeze the good hearts of working people for every drop of blood we can give to his burgeoning war chest for one.
Labor's popularity is on the rise, but states keep enacting anti-union laws. Why? Because wealthy donors keep pushing anti-worker policy. It won’t work. We’re going to disrupt that because people are coming together and understanding which side were on.
Wouldn’t it be great if the “social norm” were people rising up in a general strike if lawmakers didn’t secure healthcare as a right, equal pay, affordable housing, fully funded public schools, voting rights, democracy free of corporate $, & jobs that provide bread and roses too?
In labor’s fighting red,
@ewarren
was the first candidate on the picket line today. The scrum of media held up the line but she pressed them forward and kept it moving strong as she asked workers every step of the way about their fight for

NEW: Unions would not be able to engage in “picketing, strikes, slow downs, or boycotts” of tech companies under a draft bill in New York that would allow gig workers to unionize.
Rahm Emanuel under consideration for Transportation secretary, sources tell

Message to ALL Media outlets & Comms people:
This is NOT “stimulus.” It’s EMERGENCY RELIEF. We are still in the middle of a raging pandemic. We have to get a true stimulus/recovery in place next year. Today we get a lifeline to people & the strength to fight forward.
#ReliefNow
STRIKE ALERT! These union members need our solidarity. Poverty conditions the union is fighting to change for the people who literally died to feed the rest of us during this pandemic. It is ESSENTIAL that we all demand a contract that values the heroic work they do every day 1/2
BREAKING NEWS: Say goodbye to comfort breaks! New downward-tilting toilets are designed to become unbearable to sit on after five minutes. They say the main benefit is to employees in improved employee productivity.
Let’s take the politics out of it. We need our USPS funded right now. We need DeJoy fired by the Board of Governors so we can restore service immediately, and we need to plan a

If federal workers had the right to strike none of us would have been subjected to that reckless, mean-spirited Shutdown - and lockout of another million people doing contract work - that put all of us and our entire economy in danger. Labor rights = safety, security, sanity.
#1u
In December Trump shut down the government for 35 days, depriving over 800,000 workers of pay and forcing many to work without pay.
That cannot happen again.
Federal employees must be guaranteed the same rights as workers in the private sector—including the right to strike.
Delta Air Lines “Chief Customer Experience Officer” promotes driving 🥴 in a $1M luxury car instead of flying, (so in touch w/ Delta passengers!) while Flight Attendants suffer heat exhaustion from cabin temps and catering trucks regularly have air conditioning removed. Union Now
This is completely avoidable and inexcusable. Workers have faithfully served our country during this pandemic and we’ll before. We do not accept inaction And we won’t accept that outcome.
Flight attendants across the country this week give tearful goodbyes on their final flights as more than 40,000 airline employees are furloughed today.
“Big Labor” to me meant a flight attendant I’d never met before wrote me an $800 check when my company failed to pay me and I couldn’t afford to eat. ❤️ my union. Got my paycheck the next day. It’s full of big hearted people and we organize to take care of each other.
Your story?
Listen. The USPS is beloved by the American people, it’s critical service for our country (especially as people are isolated due to COVID), 600k dedicated union members incl veterans do essential work for us, it’s a nonpartisan service but Trump is trying to make it political 1/2
ICYMI: This week, 250 million (yes, MILLION) Indians walked off the job to protest Modi's racist & anti-worker policies. Solidarity on that scale can change the world ✊
#1u
#India
: An estimated 250 million people flooded the streets for a general strike protesting PM Modi's right-wing social & economic policies.
Endorsed by unions of farmers, workers & students, today's strike was the largest in Indian history.
#BharatBandh2020
Being a union member changes everything. It’s a new mindset - going to work knowing we have power because the boss has to answer to us. It’s about solidarity, equality, the power to make change, even in our unions, if that means being more effective together. We are the union
#1u
Strikes work. No strike clauses should be banned. But at the end of the day — there are no illegal strikes, only unsuccessful ones.
Together. We. Have. Power.
#1u
The details matter and this plan is really good.
@ewarren
not only addresses all of the policy issues that keep workers from gaining the right to negotiate, but it puts real power back in the hands of workers to raise wages with the full right to strike in every sector. 1/2
As Mother Jones said, “The capitalists are always organizing.” She also said, “If, for instance, instead of striking in small groups, every industry in America were to hold up, the capitalists would be obliged to yield to any and all demands, for the world could simply not go on”
We’re not letting this go. This has started a conversation that’s a going to be central to this presidential race. But more immediately, I was already in an emergency meeting to make sure that we don’t let this happen again in 21 days.
#LockoutNeverAgain
This is disgusting, but don’t look away. Generations of workers fought and died for the rights we believe we have today. But our rights are never absolute - today it’s our turn to fight for the world we want. This is our world. Unions = rights. Every working person - Organize!
Children stitch “Made in America” tags into shirts for J. Crew. They bake dinner rolls sold at Walmart and Target, process milk used in Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and help debone chicken sold at Whole Foods.
In the U.S., migrant child labor is everywhere.
What every industry needs is 80% union density, like we have in aviation. Then we'd show what real solidarity can accomplish in every workplace - and across our democracy.

They didn’t have to finance the tax cuts. They just made a political decision. They can do the same with building an economy from the ground up. Healthcare as a right. Housing and education for all. The right to a job. And they can start with making sure no one is going hungry.
Solidarity is a force stronger than gravity - I hope every Dem contender will feel its pull and join working people on the line. Thanks
@BernieSanders
for standing with
@CWAUnion
members in LA.
I remember the day in 2005 when the WSJ called my union “militant.” I was walking on air. That meant they knew we were going to fight injustice every time. “The militant Flight Attendant union” can you imagine how much taller you walk in a workplace where you’ve been objectified?
I often say there are no illegal strikes, only unsuccessful ones. But
@BernieSanders
is 💯 here and in his labor policy! Strikes are fundamental to collective bargaining and they should be legal in every sector to promote agreement and respect the value of workers.
#1u
The airline industry is not a boardroom of executives. It's real people - from the airport worker who wheels your grandmother to the plane, to the flight attendant who greets her, the catering worker who makes sure she can eat & drink, and the pilot who lands the plane safely.
Unions are not institutions; unions are the hearts and souls of the working people who make them powerful. In other words, us. All of us. Individual freedoms made possible because all of us stand together.
Santiago. Beirut. Chicago. San Juan. We are sick and tired of the vampire system that sucks our communities and our world dry so a tiny few can have even more. If they won't deal with us fairly, we'll match together to take back what’s ours.
820,000 protesters are estimated to be demonstrating right now in Santiago, Chile.
The manifestations have been growing for the last week.
The President's attempt to appease protesters does not seem to be working.
There's a reason we banned company towns on Earth. You should ask some

about it. FYI - the Labor Movement has no boundaries - we will be in space too,

Labor's popularity is rising BECAUSE labor is standing up to fight. Using power builds power. Thank you
@BernieSanders
for always standing with labor. We’re just getting started.

Strikes. We need to organize and prepare to strike. Nothing else will stop this trend. Why can’t we have anything nice (roses)? Because we’ve been willing to work more to meet basic needs (bread). If we want bread and roses too, it will take a lot of strikes.

Dear CEOs - your "business needs" are not worth the life of a single worker. Cutting isolation time to 5 days will mean more workers will die. Full. Stop.
Don’t. Do. It.
On fairly regular occasion I get private messages that simply say, “I am so ready for a general strike.” Wondering if you’ve ever had that thought, what was it exactly that made you think it?
