Another part in @rmoff's excellent series on data & analytics engineering in 2022: ELT tools 👍. Slight chuckle though when reading "Next sync will run in 6 hours". Only real-time is real 😎. https://t.co/dzL8zarNjP

i don't think the three or four people publicly running twitter have come even close to understanding the depth of everlasting contempt that the people who've built careers on here will have for them when this is all over.

It seems common at big tech to consider data engineers a tier below SWEs. Is this true everywhere? Is this changing?

How I went from junior data engineer (L3) at Facebook to staff data engineer (L6) at Airbnb in 4 years. - I got hired at Facebook in 2016 as a junior data engineer. I had 2 years of experience and I realized that I probably got hired at the wrong level. (1/13)

Daniel and Tyler (also Dan Mills) have done some foundational work on streaming SQL. Finalization is a beautiful and powerful concept. Their work also melds with temporal database concepts.

15 years ago my PhD advisor taught me One Weird Trick for editing your own writing. Edit **back to front**, paragraph by paragraph. I still use it and it still surprises me how well it works. When I get my students to do it, it often blows their minds. Try it!
