FWIW, this is not my experience and not what I encourage our founders to do. When there's a great exit, at a minimum, employees should get accelerated vesting.
Many are upset about what happens to employees who havenât hit their 1-year cliff. But this isnât unique- most companies donât pay out unvested shares in an acquisition or licensing deal. I think this should change. Cliffs exist to prevent giving equity to people who leave
