I've been visiting @PooleParkLife since the beginning of the semester reading the rings of the birds there. One Black-headed Gull has been giving me the run around, until Friday. EP17324 ringed on 27th October 1990 as an adult in Poole Park! Making it atleast 32yr & 5 months old!

Cracking morning. Not often you get to see Red-crested Pochard in the hand, so to catch two and set a new longevity record that has stood since 1965 is a cracking day! πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ @_BTO

New UK Longevity Record for Red Crested Pochard! Having stood since 1965, this male retrapped at Hyde Park today has set a new record at 8 years and 1 month. Such a bizarre bird, with their strawberry ice lolly for a beak πŸ“πŸ¦†@_BTO #londonbirds

After getting soaked in our attempt to win the #BTOBigBirdRace2024, Charlie and I headed over to Swineham GP to see what was around. This Pectoral Sandpiper on the Stilt pools was a nice reward for our efforts. The first either of us had ever seen!

Not the bird I thought I would see in the hand whilst ringing in Dorset this am. A Male Cirl Bunting! An unexpected lifer & a control from elsewhere! A Juv was also seen around the site! Pied flycatcher, 7 Tree Pipits & 2 Groppers the best of the rest. @DorsetBirdClub

When a possible Woodchat Shrike became a definite when this flicked up on to the brambles in front of us! A new species for @RSPBRainham reserve. Made even better by seeing Little Tern on the Thames before hand. Still in a state of shock! AbsoluteπŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ #londonbirds

Surreal scenes this morning as a pod of 3 Common Dolphins cruised upriver past @RSPBRainham towards #London on the rising tide. Honestly bonkers!

After two unsuccessful dips of Waxwing in London this year, it proved 3rd time lucky. 12 of these absolute legends provided great afternoon entertainment in Graham Park Road, Mill Hill. A long overdue lifer! #londonbirds

Today @whiteleggdan & I were out ring reading in Hyde Park when the famous Pigeon eating Lesser Black-backed Gull struck. It proceeded to drag the pigeon out into the water before effortlessly finishing it's dinner. All in front of a crowd of mortified tourists! #londonbirds

A fantastic 9 days @spurnbirdobs that started with Red-eyed Vireo & Ortolan Bunting & ended with Yellow-browed warblers and a snow storm of thrushes. Sunday morning was quite spectacular at dawn with c30k Redwing & c1.8k Song Thrush they were quite literally everywhere. Simply 🀯

There have been some decent birding days in Dorset since the warm weather began. One thing that had been missing was a decent raptor. This changed today when this cracking Honey Buzzard drifted out to sea over @DurlstonCP whilst @whiteleggdan and I were ringing.

When you arrive to see a distant ball of egrets heading your way, its now safe to assume they are going to be Cattle's. Here is the flock of 31 that passed through Christchurch Harbour at 08:15 this am. A decent morning 3 Wheatear, 2 Whinchat, 3 Tree Pipit the best of the rest.

Really pleased to have seen my first Heath Tiger Beetle (Cicindela Sylvatica) with 3 seen early this morning on a Dorset Heath. A nice way to start the day before heading to the library to do some work! @SightingDOR #wildlife

These aren't going to win any awards but great to bump into the Forster's Tern again today @RSPBArne It flew in as we arrived on Shipstall beach and landed with the group of Terns, Gulls and waders. Then flew off towards Middlebere after a bit of a preen.
