Our Sedge Warblers are still working hard to feed their young here at Rainham. This industrious parent was seen at the back of Shooting Butts hide only last week. The weather this weekend looks bright, a perfect opportunity to visit the reserve. Don't forget to bring a picnic!

A superb shot of a juvenile male Bearded Tit at the Dragonfly Pool. Definitely worth visiting Rainham this weekend to try to spot these beautiful birds. The Green Sandpiper has also been seen recently from the Ken Barret hide. Photos credit to Richard Hadfield.

This is Cylindromyia bicolor a fly that is usually found in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The first ever UK sighting was here at Rainham in July 2023, it was found here again in July in the Woodland. Its unique to us! Credit to Andy Reid for the great spot and the photo.

In June, we have had over 107 species of bird spotted on the reserve, some of the hi-lights being a Yellowhammer, Treecreeper, Ruddy Shelduck, Red Crested Pochard and the sometimes heard very rarely seen Grasshopper Warbler. Credit to Russ Sherriff for these lovely shots.

June is when we see the fruits of spring's hard labour. Young birds emerge, (Avocet chick by Richard Hadfield.) They are precocial meaning they hatch in an advanced state so they can run around, covered in down and all most immediately feed themselves. Come on reserve to see.
