Good to see survivorship and late effects listed as a pressure point. Studies clearly show cancer survivors have poorer long-term health that those without cancer and that post treatment support is a postcode lottery for access to specialist late-effects services. @PRDA_uk.
A new Parliament sits today. If they want to think about a Cancer Plan - here's a starter for 10 @TheLancetOncol . Pressure points explored and recommendations offered.

This is a really interesting study as benefits of high intensity exercise and resistance training are shown to have benefit for women during therapy. However, the benefits declined over time and this highlights the need to continue physical activity longer-term @SurvOncMASCC.
Exited to share the 5 year follow up! Five-year follow-up of the OptiTrain trial on concurrent resistance and high-intensity interval training during…

Symptoms both physical and psychological continue long after cancer treatment has finished. This article highlights the need for support beyond treatment @CanceCareMASCC @TCDRadTher.
Clinical trialists must recognise that improved survival alone is insufficient. cancer diagnosis and treatment are toxic to patients beyond the obvious consequences of side effects.

Rehabilitation is such a game changer for people who have received cancer treatment. Not only in reducing side effects, extending survival, for some cancers, but improving quality of life. Great to see WHO package of interventions for malignant neoplasms @cancernurseEU @ESTRO_RT.

Peripheral neuropathy from cancer or chemotherapy won’t kill you but it really impacts on quality of life. It gets worse as you age, impacts work and living!! We need more help and investment in research. @LesleyLesleys @WaldenstromsMac @CancerCareMASCC.

The PRDA best practice guidelines provide useful information to support people living with pelvic radiation. We need to provide late effects clinics to improve QOL @LesleyLesleys #prda.
An emotive patient presentation during the last day @ESTRO_RT .The profound impact of late effects on QOL and the things we take for granted…what does the clinician reported data mean in reality? #prda

Researchers have identified that a poor skin microbiome before radiotherapy is associated with severity of skin reactions. We are at the beginning of learning more how a healthy microbiome impacts side effects . Hülpüsch C, et al. JAMA Oncol 2023.6533 @ESTRO_RT @CancerCareMASCC.

The disparities are crazy when you think radiotherapy is one of the most cost effective cancer treatments.
NEW: A country income-group analysis aims to estimate the current and projected demand and supply in megavoltage radiotherapy machines in the Asia-Pacific region, using an adjusted model accounting for the later stage of presentation seen in many LMICs.
