I’m writing a book with @DKThomp!. It’s about Abundance — how we lost it as a vision, how we can make it a reality. It will build on my work on supply-side progressivism and his on abundance — but where we’re going with it will be fun. From @AvidReaderPress in 2024. .

.@DKThomp is moving to Substack and it's going to be so, so good. Here's part of his manifesto: . "In bookstores, Abundance tends to reside in the current affairs section. But this is really a book about attention. It’s about the questions Democrats haven’t been focused on and.

Here's the whole thing, because X flattens everything into caricature, too.

The tendency to cut politics into a side of purity and a side of corruption flattens human beings into caricatures — both your opponents and yourself. David is more complex than that, and so am I. The irony is that that's a major argument of the piece Sirota is screenshotting:

I remember when David ran up to me, apologized for being a jerk on Twitter over the years, told me how much my podcast had meant to him, said his politics were changing, and asked if we could get lunch and talk. This was August 2024, well after I'd started on Abundance work.

If you look out at the current world in which corporations & billionaires control everything & the left has no power & yet you’re insisting the problem isn’t oligarchy, then it’s a good bet your whole life theory of career ascension is to placate oligarchs who pay speaking fees.

I think this is because the left's relationship to the state is a lot more conflicted than our macro-narrative of politics suggests. From my piece today:

It has been striking to me how important it is for Abundance's critics to deny or ignore that this is a book about making the state more, not less, powerful and capable of doing big things.

In his review (pics) & constantly in this interview, @sandeepvaheesan argues "Abundance" centers the private sector or, as he says, "The public sector [should] stand down & let the private sector deliver abundance.”. Makes for a good critique, but only prob is it's very wrong.🧵

A lot more to say here than I can jam into some tweets, so here it is: Abundance's "Theory of Power," explained.

And its theory of politics — to take this a bit further — is that part of how you win credibility with voters is by showing you see the failures and problems of your own side, not just the other side.

Many of my more leftist friends (and frenemies) have pushed me on whether Abundance has “a theory of power.” . I often say it does — but they’re not going to like it. And that’s in part because its theory of power is liberal rather than populist.

Last week, Ben Rhodes and I did a.@munkdebates against Kevin Roberts and Kellyanne Conway on whether Trump is leading America into a new golden age. We won. This is from my closing statement. There’s nothing golden about a movement that bathes in gratuitous cruelty.

The administration's response to the Signal debacle is just suffused with contempt for their own voters. Just an endless belief that the people who support them can be tricked into believing the laziest misdirection imaginable.
