And with solar geoengineering (SAI etc), there really no co-benefits, whereas technologies like biochar and ERW help increase crop yields, water retention (e.g. increased drought tolerance), nutrient cycling etc. And if you stop managing biochar or ERW, the process continues on.
🚨Solar Geoengineering (#SRM) may seem cheap (~$18B/yr) to cool the planet, but when you factor in societal risks, political instability & sudden climate rebounds, the true cost may far exceed technical estimates from both moral & practical standpoints, says a new study. 🧵1/11

Fascinatingly, part of the plan, as per China's “Eastern Data, Western Computing” initiative, might be AI 👇 It's not only that the dam project will generate immense amounts of electricity that can be used for computing, but also the fact that it's.

"In short, China will transform industrial capacity into electricity, electricity into computational power, and computational power into ever higher levels of advanced productivity.". New dam in China will be 300 billion kilowatt-hours, can power ~20% of the USA.
One of the most powerful ways to absorb the vast torrents of electricity Tibet will soon unleash—surpassing the output of three Three Gorges Dams—is to deploy colossal AI compute clusters right at the source. Tibet’s naturally low temperatures provide ideal, energy-saving.

how long will we even have the satellites to track this?.
Well this isn’t good. Sea Surface Temperature Anomalies (SSTAs) for the date are now up to + 11.1 degrees C (+ 20 degrees F) in a rapidly intensifying Marine Heat Wave (MHW) in the Kara Sea off the west coast of Yamal, Siberia, where some of the largest stores of frozen methane

And guess what, the COP process requires 100% agreement by all parties. How can we ever expect Saudi Arabia, Russia, UAE, etc agree to phase out fossil fuels which keep them in power? Instead we let them lead it, it's a joke. Serious countries must reform COP or form alternative.
Small handful of the world’s biggest fossil fuel companies, “carbon majors” hold our future in their hands, responsible for 52% global emissions in 2023.

The equation has shifted and the precautionary principle now says we have to act to even try to keep the climate where it is now. Inaction is its own form of action to destroy the planet.
"The idea that we might attempt large-scale experiments to cool the planet is horrifying to some, but it looks increasingly likely that we will have to do so this century." #SolarGeoengineering.

coolest but scariest battery swap i've ever seen.
The era of massive factories with thousands of workers is ending. Factories will remain, and will grow larger, but people will work there mostly as supervisors. Instead of 10,000+ workers on few shifts, each huge factory will need only a handful of people.

It should be illegal to not do directed ocean fertilization along known whale corridors. Releasing iron+other elements like glaciers do, will net help the ecosystem. The status quo of mass die-offs is way worse than any downsides. Precautionary principle = yes, help the whales.
Most of the stranded whales showed signs of malnutrition, inc depleted blubber oil, missing fat reserves & empty digestive tracts. similar to conditions that precipitated the Unusual Mortality Event monitored by NOAA Fisheries from 2018 to 2023.

China had a deadline for solar projects to get on the grid that just ended, but it pushed the thumb down on the scale of their installed solar. As Jesse has pointed out, by 2030 the yearly solar+battery production of China will exceed the total US power grid. We are in trouble.
Are you paying attention yet?. 113 TWh in June. Chinese solar generation will soon eclipse the biggest source of generation in the U.S. — natural gas. (167 TWh in June). We cannot build gas turbines quickly enough to keep up. We have to get serious about solar. Nothing else

Seems non-climate people finally catching on to the clean, cheap, high-growth energy of renewables, being what powers the AI race. Idiots need to stop being anti-solar, wind, etc, as it is anti-American, anti-21st century US hegemony etc. Drill baby drill = lose the battle for AI.
