The law says stay local, unless you have a reasonable excuse. Local is not defined. The so-called ‘5 mile rule’ is guidance, not law and based on the (sensible) view that the less people travel, the less the virus travels. If it’s reasonable to travel more than 5 miles, you can.
Labour’s First Minister is making it up as he goes along. There’s no scientific evidence for his ‘5 mile rule’ & he’s now said you can travel further if you’re concerned about a family member. I imagine if they’re not already, the public will ignore it.
