In a strange coda, Semafor’s @SCClemons has written a rebuttal of his own colleague's piece on @CrisisGroup. The mistakes in Semafor's earlier reporting need to be corrected. https://t.co/dSqLCgDkBY

It’s still not clear whether Iran and the U.S., or China and the U.S., have war baked into their destinies. That history is still up for grabs.

It took us roughly 5 minutes on Google to debunk claims like thesešŸ‘‡šŸ½ from both Semafor & Iran International. In 2014, when the nuclear negotiations were underway & IPIS had new leadership, many more institutions - Western & otherwise - formally engaged IPIS. Again, no correction

UPDATE: @Semafor believes 2014 & 2018 come after 2021! They refused to correct inaccuracies despite seeing attacks Tehran lodged @CrisisGroup prior to 2021. Presumably, these attacks don’t fit their narrative…or perhaps Tehran calling @AliVaez a CIA agent isn’t an ā€œattackā€!

1/Semafor & Iran Int falsely claim that attacks against us only came after 2021 or from hardliners. We've asked them to correct this & other errors & will share such corrections here. A long history of Iran’s attacks against @CrisisGroup is available šŸ‘‡šŸ½ https://t.co/FV8DKZsoMd

UNRWA is a critical lifeline for millions of Palestinians suffering from catastrophic hunger and the outbreak of diseases. An independent investigation into allegations is needed, but defunding would amount to collective punishment. Read my new blog post: https://t.co/CAcNV3HWoa

2/ To underscore this, @AliVaez has not been able to travel to Iran since 2014 due to security threats. Alleging that he & @CrisisGroup are too close to Iran just repeats Iranian disinformation from Zarif’s book & elsewhere.

@urnwa Meanwhile, the #EU must reconsider its approach in the Sahel and recalibrate its policy. Juntas responsible for military coups in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger are hardly ideal partners, but they are likely to remain the main interlocutors for the foreseeable future

Violence is raging in Europe's wider neighbourhood too. We call on the #EU to press for an immediate ceasefire in #Gaza. We also call on the EU and member states to continue funding @URNWA. Cutting aid right now would be unconscionable given the level of humanitarian needs.

Europe’s next crop of leaders have a difficult hand to play in 2024. The challenges are clear on the EU’s eastern flank. With a war of attrition in Ukraine, it's key that the EU approve the €50 billion aid package destined to help Kiev rebuild and keep its economy afloat.
