I am very happy and proud that one of my PhD chapter is now published in @Systematic_Ent ! π₯³ I was honored to conduct the revision of these lesser-known swallowtail butterflies with whole-genome data at @isem @cnrs as part of the @ERC_Research GAIA project! π¦

@isemevol @nanopore @illumina Finally, it was a really cool paper to work on and write! And it has been showcased in the Nature Research Highlights section π https://t.co/TxESTQnSM3 7/7

Nature - An endangered butterfly, found only in a small part of Papua New Guinea, has had a small population for a million years.

@isemevol @nanopore @illumina MSMC2 analyses show a slowly steadily declining trend, and we could see the separation into 2 pop! It probably happened after the last glaciation. Yet demographic (DILS) analyses infer some possible geneflow between the 2 pop, suggesting they do not deserve a species status. 6/7

@isemevol @nanopore @illumina But we first wanted to make sure that MSMC2 was performing ok in the range of parameter of this low mutation rate insect, as it could have a huge impact in SMC analyses! Simulations show that giving a good prior was helping the to MSMC model to recover the correct trend. 5/7

@isemevol This huge butterfly has a restrained distribution in PNG and is separated in 2 populations. Are these populations divergent and/or belonging to the same species? This question could have an impact on its conservation⦠2/7

Finally out! π¦π¦π¦ In this study led by Fabien Condamine, we did a comprehensive review of the taxonomy of the genus Papilio (Papilionidae), resulting in 235 species distributed all over the world! βοΈRead more about their origin and diversification here: https://t.co/E1wPU0fWgq
