The argument is: We're all meant to sacrifice a bit, so that tariffs can help rebuild American manufacturing. Let's ask American manufacturers whether they're helping.

Complexity is a tax: "Trump’s Tariffs Leave US Business Tied Up in Costly Red Tape" 👀 https://t.co/wjJuRdV3iE "It’s a far cry from Trump’s campaign-trail promises last year to unleash US business by scrapping burdensome rules" "It’s death by a thousand papercuts"

Thanks to @CatoInstitute and @scottlincicome for their series on globalization. Very useful in the classroom. It's interesting how anti-globalists' rhetoric tend to dissipate when the "unfair competitors" who "take advantage of the US" invest in their states....

opinion polls like ski slopes...... Anti-American Sentiment Rises in Europe as Trump Fuels Anger https://t.co/DtpIXKYCiw

Rising anti-American sentiment in Europe as President Donald Trump’s policies ruffle feathers is ushering in a shift in consumer behavior, not least in attitudes toward American goods.

Again, this will also hurt American distributors and wineries, and allow American producers to raise prices w.o. efficiency gains. BTW, most corks are also imported from Europe... Trump Brings European Wineries to Their Knees Even Before Tariffs Hit https://t.co/LHm89MXoKe

Growers were already struggling from France to Italy when the US president threatened a 200% levy on the region's wine. Now, shipments have ground to a halt and producers don't even know how to price...

Agree. The real headline should read: Trump imposes significant tax increases on American importers, consumers, and producers.

So, Americans having access to quality goods and choices, and voluntarily purchasing goods is bad according to this admin. Also, since imports also create jobs, Americans will be hit twice.

Watched Canadian Bacon, the movie. Things that were intended as jokes in 1995 have today been stated by, ostensibly serious, American politicians.....

"The U.S. also has TRQs set for imports of Canadian dairy products. Before the quota is met, Canadian dairy imports face a tariff rate of zero percent. After that, certain products face tariff rates of 100 percent or more."

The president made a series of factually incorrect claims regarding tariff policy, defense spending, and the trade deficit.

Firms were busy stocking up prior to the tariff chaos. Also important to remember that it's (mostly) not the US, CA or EU that imports & sells (I know govs order some goods& services); it's firms, and they try to be efficient & effective, otherwise they won't survive

And those imports create American jobs, not only in production, but also transport, advertising, and sales

Domestic made US steel prices were already 20-30% more expensive than European &global prices. New price hikes announced as soon as tariffs were implemented. Tariffs on allies hurt US downstream firms. Allyibg with CA, AU, EU. UK, KOR against Chinese overcapacity would work

On shoring all Canadian aluminum would require "over 40 million megawatt-hours of electricity. This is nearly four and a half times the annual electricity production of the Hoover Dam, enough to power 460 data centers or the entire state of Nevada for a year"
