When you hear a call to create safe spaces for educators to learn new and truly science based methods- please listen. You will not create change if your approach is attacking and demoralizing. Start by listening, building trust and then pushing towards positive change (5/).

Last year a simple choice, a choice to put every kid in a book study small group with me, had kids RUNNING to my small group. And for some, that meant telling there parents “I’m finally a reader”.

It’s ensuring all kids are seen as capable of. It’s ensuring all kids feel the power of a great novel. It’s ensuring kids have the supports and scaffolds needed to succeed . It’s ensuring all kids see themselves as readers.

If I had to choose just one thing that defines my passion as a teacher, it’s this. Not only does teaching with grade level (and.or challenging text) help to ensure all kids reach grade level proficiency…. It’s so much more than that.

Kid in my class: Why is there just a chapter of this book in this? The entire book is great!! They should put the entire book for us to read and learn from. Me: Girl… lol…. Don’t get me started 😏.

First day year 21. I woke up at 5am not anxious, but excited. New school .New beginnings.All of the gratitude. Happy back to school season teachers ❤️.

This is why I cannot stand people that don’t pause to understand why any one given approach to anything ever existed. Also jokes on all of you sor bully’s this is the 1st time in my career I’ve seen “guess based on the first letter” as a suggested activity for a struggling reader.

In PDs all week, diving into things like Amplify’s mClass. As someone who has never taught “guessing” during reading I did chuckle upon seeing this ⬇️.

Im 30 years older than her and still practicing that skill.

My 10 yr old daughter had a rough year last year. Currently in summer camp with a peer who was trying to rehash all the drama (which is age appropriate) My daughter simply responded with:. “Well, let’s just leave that in the past and focus on the fun we can have today.”. Damn.

I took a much needed social media hiatus but…. I’m back lol.

Switching schools this year and feeling the loss of my old team (I adore them) But… just got an email from my new team sharing their Morphology resources so… dang. That’s all this girl needed as a sign of good things ahead 🥰. Cheers to the teacher teams that collaborate.

One of the worst things we can do for students? Silencing teachers who want to advocate and innovate—then forcing them to follow rigid, poorly written curriculum in the name of “fidelity”. Attract & retain the best of the best- then… Trust teacher expertise over all else. Always.
