Then again, these elephants are captive animals with warm houses to go to if they get too cold, so animals that evolved for the Morrison or Dinosaur Park formations still aren't best suited to a modern Northern winter. But Brono Billy could survive in a zoo!

By contrast, big dinosaurs like Sauropods and Hadrosaurs would stand a somewhat better chance, if captive elephants in northern countries are anything to go by. Their large size and comparatively smaller surface area ensures that they can stay warm without much fur.

Idk who needs to hear this, but Blue and Beta should be dead. Yes they're warm-blooded, but there's a reason birds and mammals in cold climates have thick integument, be that feathers, fur or fat. They'd stand as much chance in that environment as a naked human being would. .

@_LightRoomLDN Probably the highlight of the show is the section on raising young, which almost functions as a mini-episode on its own, first looking at the mad rush of Isisaurus hatchlings, and contrasting it with the raising of a single offspring by Plesiosaurs. Also Kaikaifilu is there.

@_LightRoomLDN Some more photos of me goofing off with dinosaurs. It was great to see this at full size - honestly wished there was more time spent just being able to walk around and measure up to these guys!

Visited the @_LightRoomLDN for the #PrehistoricPlanet experience yesterday with Acheroraptor. Excellent show, an interesting use of the footage from the original series combined with a few new animations to tell the stories on four screens instead of one!

The original Novel did *some* things better than the film, and I'd usually rank them on a fairly even footing.

Finally we come to Cruel Eden. This time it's Challenger's son and Summerlee's Daughter (who are in love) trying to stop the Germans from using dinosaurs in WW1. Roxton and Malone both star, they never meet (or kiss) but neither is arbitrarily straight, so well done Tim!

Speaking of short-lived YA novels, Lost Worlds is set in the modern day, starring another descendant of Challenger, and here the connections end. In Book 1 he sends an expedition to find Almasty Neanderthals, in Book 2 giant centipedes. Never took off like Young Sherlock Holmes.

"Return to the Lost World" (not to be confused with the film of the same name) is a 2010 sequel intended to kickstart a YA series. The protagonists are Challenger's Grandson and Malone's son (they straight-washed him again). Also Roxton is the bad guy. Book sucks, moving on.

Greg Bear's Dinosaur Summer is a pretty loose sequel to the Lost World, featuring none of the classic protagonists, but instead Willis O'brien and Ray Harryhausen are prominent characters. This also features the most speculative evolution of any sequel, which is very cool.

Then there's the sequel to the 1992 Lost World movie, called "Return to the Lost World". John Rhys Davies is default the best Challenger because no one ever gave Brian Blessed the role. You can watch it on YouTube, it's not remotely good.

Despite the name, "Land of Mist" is Doyle's manifesto on spiritualism. Pithecanthropus shows up as a ghostly vision, but no one ever acknowledges that they've seen them before. Also they made Malone straight and married in this one. Eww.

The official sequels are number of other Challenger and Malone (sometimes Roxton, once Summerlee) stories written by Doyle. Pictured are the Poison Belt, the Disintegration Machine and When the World Screamed. None of them include dinosaurs.
