New @jamapeds study states that a 2010 change in school meals (#NSLP) reduced avg student BMI by less than 0.05 points. Underwhelming. Yet experts conclude it "underscores the important impact of the [NSLP] on reducing excess weight gain" @bigfatsurprise

Top scientists on this panel--agreeing saturated fats have no effect on cardiovascular/total mortality, and time to drop the limits on them. Problem is that 70+ yrs. of sat-fat caps are enshrined/entombed in regulation--must be undone.

I'm proud to share the news article I wrote for @DietDoctor on research about how ketogenic diets may help people suffering from eating disorders. (Y'all know how uneasy I am about this topic - I'm happy to have this excellent foundation.)
dietdoctor.com
Can keto cause eating disorders? New research shows just the opposite. A low-carb, ketogenic diet may help disordered eating while improving overall health.

"The Ominous Rise of Toddler Milk," marketed by infant formula companies, trying to get moms to feed 2-3-year olds a corn-syrup-vegetable-oil concoction, high in sugar and devoid of nutrients...rather than natural milk. Don't be fooled by fake food.

Baby-formula sales are slumping, so the companies that make it have turned to supplements for 3-year-olds.

Great example of ‘health halo’ in food marketing. ?Healthier - ‘natural’, ‘sensible’ with ‘20% fruit juice’. Reality - candy disguised. 1st ingredient sugar - 5tsp sugar/12 pcs. Parents think they’re choosing healthy. #lesssugar #healthierkids #healthierCanadians

Snacking > solid meals may very well be driving obesity. It’s the opposite of fasting. When you’re snacking all the time, the body never has a chance to recover from glucose etc. Mid-morning/afternoon snacks at school mean kids now eating virtually all day long
More people are turning to snacks over meals. People are swapping meals for small bites to meet their personal needs - especially in developing markets. Read the first ever #StateofSnacking report to learn more about global snacking trends https://t.co/zTAVh8miTA

Who's raising a hand for "National Lard Day?" C'mon, don't be shy! Lard + butter were the two main fats used in cooking in Europe+US before early 20th C, when industry invented factory-made seed oils (using a metal catalyst). Yummy! I prefer natural fats.

Amazing! Please watch this internal medicine doc say it all with poise (and a little humor). She implores the DGA advisory committee to change guidelines to reduce sugar and carbs to help those with diabetes and prediabetes... perhaps half of adults. KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE!!
Here's the video of what I said to the USDA. Enjoy! https://t.co/w4st5OC1aJ

I was gonna keep quiet because EVERYBODY'S making fun of this study that shows teeny amounts of sugary drinks are linked to cancer, but there's a SUPERCRAPPY thing about the study that's being overlooked.

Calorie counting has been central to people's understanding of weight gain for over a century. Given that the great majority of diets fail—could the calorie be one of the biggest delusions in dietary history?
