Policies that would actually help bonding: adequate family leave, housing reform, Medicaid extension, health equity, improved access to evidence-based MH tx for families in need or at risk, CBO supports for those without adequate family/community practical and emotional support..

Yes, to all of this! I try to tell all my pregnant and pp patients that "bonding" is not magic fairy dust. It's a relationship that is messy and real, and will grow with care, time, and "good-enough" parenting

Want to reduce mass shootings at schools and colleges? Screening for mental illness is not the answer, because few shooters have a serious mental illness. What is the answer? Reducing access to guns. https://t.co/1FWE4Etifr via @medscape

Im nowhere demonizing anti-depressants. I’m in support of them. I also think there is more going on here - many moms lack access to basic/safe housing, childcare, maternity leave, etc etc. We are leaving moms behind which definitely affects their mental health!

Medical students across the country are calling for greater support for new parents, pushing for more comprehensive parental leave policies. As @CMangurian highlights, addressing the needs of caregivers is critical to cultivating a sustainable workforce. https://t.co/gPT95MDfIe

New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services must protect children without overpolicing families. A report the agency commissioned says it often fails.
