🎓 At the UMR 6566 - CReAAH Scientific Info Day in Rennes! Great to reconnect with colleagues and meet new faces such as Giada Pirrone & Anass Butsch, PhDs of the ArCHe network (HORIZON, MSCA 2024-2027). 🌊 Best of luck with their research! 🔬 #Archaeology #ArCHe @CReAAH_UMR6566

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 15 We finished with a talk at the @Soc_Jersiaise with a good turn out and some questions! 👥 A way to thank everyone involved with the dig, especially our Members and students. 🙏 Now let's wait for 2025...!

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 14 With the rain scheduled for tomorrow, the excavation is now over. This is the end! 🎬 49 features in total. Most of them located in Trench 2 which "looks like gruyere". 🧀 Still a few pictures & drawings to do, but next step will be the report! 📝

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 13 As the end of the excavation is nearly there, the last features are being excavated and recorded. ⌛ @BBCJersey came to discuss about the work and the finds. I can't wait to see that on screen later this week! 📹 Thank you @EJB89 for your interest.

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 12 Today was our Open Day. 👥 We have organised a few guided tours on site for all our visitors and also had some finds on display. 📦 Such a good thing to discuss with the public about the site, its discoveries and (try to) answer questions! ❔

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 11 Focus on the ceramics. 🏺 Lots of sherds were recovered and - even if they still need to be cleaned and described - they fit in the Second Iron age (mostly La Tène moyenne and La Tène finale). A few armorican sherds appeared and will be studied! 🔬

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 10 Week 2 is now over! ⏳ Rainy day today, but it did not stop Tahnee from running a session with the Young Archaeologists' Club @JerseyHeritage! 🌧🧒 And our students from Brittany? They are used to the rain and surely have great camping skills! ⛺

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 9 Excavation in Trench 2 is moving forward. This trench cuts the farmstead from one side to another. ✂️ Plenty of pits & postholes have been identified. One feature, a large pit, seems to hold the remains of a hearth with a floor made of sherds. 🔥

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 8 Agatha and Emilia, aka Shell-Maiden and Tooth Fairy, were lucky enough to find animal bones preserved due to the large deposit of limpets which sat atop. 🦴🦷 A few jars have been found. Maybe some old forgotten recipe for a limpet soup or stew? 👩🍳

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 7 Nearly done with Trench 1 and its features but we have a couple of sections to draw. ✏📝 Trench 2, cutting from one side of the enclosure to another, is being excavated at the moment. ⛏ Work in progress!

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 5 Week 1 is already over! ⏳ In Trench 2, Emilia and Agatha are doing a section in the main enclosure (Feature 7). They have excavated some domestic wastes with limpet shells and a couple of bones preserved within! 🐚🦴 Sediment is kept for sieving!

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 4 A couple of features are being tested by the team. In his sondage, Marc discovered a small artefact that looks like a burned crucible (?) 🔥 We wrapped it and carefully removed it from the ground but restoration work will be needed later on! 👨🏾🔬👩🏻🔬

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 3 The digger is gone (😢) but Trench 2 gave us a lot of archaeological features to record! 📑 Great find today from Ewen and Alexis while doing a sondage in the main ditch (Feature 7): a spindle whorl! 🧵

Mont Cochon, St Helier - Day 2 The main ditch from the enclosure (Feature 7) is now visible and is getting cleaned by the team. 🧹 While working on his area (Feature 6), Sebastian had a lovely surprise: a crushed pot! 🏺
