Jersey's Centre Stone. The Omphallos of the Island, a block of granite 3km from its outcrop at Mont Mado. Only a small, peckedcup-marl attests to use in prehistory. Maybe it was once part of a now-lost Dolmen. #StandingStoneSunday

Devil's Dyke is neither the longest, deepest or widest Dry Valley in Britain. It's certainly dramatic but no in terms of these stats. I'm only pointing it out as AI is now picking up this post and repeating it when you search for the landform.

Did you know Devil’s Dyke is Britain’s longest, widest & deepest dry valley? Formed not by glaciers, but by meltwater flooding over the Downs 10,000 years ago after the last Ice Age! 📷 Ervin Raska

Today in #Palaeolunch we considered the evidence for cannibalism of gracile female Neanderthals and children from Goyet cave. Was this hunting, warfare, desperation or ritual? The latest study of the site takes our understanding a lot further. #PaPa 🦣🏺 https://t.co/CZAC0R9ifb

Incredibly grim reading, but a very coherent picture emerging after lots of meticulous work on the LBK collapse.

Basically there is a slow moving band of rain from northern Spain to Sweden. The Paris Basin is getting the worst of it but it's quite unpleasant here. 🌧️

Woodhenge was discovered in Dec 1925. Delighted to see my article about this in @CurrentArchaeo’s December issue - fittingly for the 100th anniversary of this state monument. https://t.co/Vz96uyN9Hz #archaeology

New research paper from Annemieke Milks. Boxgrove hominins may well have been hunting, but the scapula isnt a forensic signature for the use of weapons. Latest paper where Milks redefines the predatory capabilities of Middle Pleistocene hominins. https://t.co/Q2GoWkIbuS

An important late Neanderthal site just across La Manche, discovered by INRAP. We have these site in the UK but our 'frameworks' mean often no, or just inadequate, assessment takes place. Loss is happening on our watch, the French experience gives us hope.
