Dear @David_Cameron I know you mean well, but unfortunately screening for early disease may sound logical and sensible but can also be ineffective and harmful. Recommending a bad test leads to false reassurance, and harms through unnecessary or ineffective treatment that only /
I am disappointed by today’s recommendation on prostate cancer screening from the National Committee. Targeted screening is a natural first step - but the recommendation today is far too targeted, not including black men or men with a family history, both high-risk groups.

‘Section 2(4) of the Law Reform (Personal Injuries) Act 1948, which requires courts to disregard the existence of the NHS when paying clinical negligence compensation, and instead do so on the basis of the cost of private healthcare.’ Needs to go
The Government spends £3.1 billion a year on clinical negligence. That's more than the winter fuel allowance or Government farming subsidies This is not due to a decline in patient safety, but an increase in legal costs Read what we think needs to change

This needs urgent and significant action. The NHS partly runs on the good will of staff and this will further damage the relationship with resident doctors who have already dedicated so much of their lives to being part of the health service.
Quickly updated my graphs for applicants/posts with the 2025 data released today. Please see comments for second set of CT1/ST1 specialties graphs.

Unconscionable - and worth understanding why. It would cost pittance to ensure these talented new GPs are in practice rather than risking a brain drain from U.K. worth £m+
New @rcgp data shows 4,200 GPs finished their training last week. But many are struggling to find work. That’s why we’re calling on the Government to urgently provide ring-fenced funding to fix the GP unemployment crisis. https://t.co/EP1d22bunB

Congratulations @VictoriaTzB on your election as @rcgp Chair! I was surprised to learn the role is elected solely by Council, not the wider membership. I hope you'll consider extending voting rights to members during your leadership – especially given recent events at the RCP.

How can investing in research improve public health? NIHR-funded research delivers life-changing results and returns over £13 to the UK economy for every £1 invested. Preventable illnesses put pressure on our health systems — but strategic investment can drive lasting change.
