Can we please stop referring to the NHS as one entity as if it is a homogenous blob like Amazon?
The NHS is a huge patchwork of thousands of clinical and non-clinical organisations ranging from awful to outstanding. Tarnishing the whole service with one sorry brush…
I am so disheartened 😞
The CURE for the overwhelmed hospitals & ambulance queues is sitting in a fridge somewhere while GPs, nurses & pharmacists are sitting, waiting to help like an impotent civilian army.
I should be vaccinating 100s of patients today.

Letter sent today to Secretary of State for Health and Social Care
@MattHancock
from 66 GPs urging him to consider non-Covid harms in the response to the pandemic
Lots of people outside enjoying the sun as they should be.
Seeing lots of critical tweets-
firstly, outside transmission is minimal.
And secondly many people don’t have gardens or outside space.
Before taking pics of people in a playground, take a look at yourself.

I think if you are a doctor and you are speculating on the cause of death of anyone, never mind a celebrity who has died unexpectedly, you really need to sit back, stop and ask yourself what you have become.
And think about a bereaved family you are traumatising.
Isn’t it weird how all the anti vax replies come from anonymous accounts, with stock pictures and lots of numbers in the name…. It’s almost as if they weren’t real people 🤭
BREAKING NEWS - (AND IT'S POSITIVE)
Patients across the UK who are admitted to intensive care units due to COVID-19 are set to receive new life-saving treatments which can reduce the time spent in hospital by up to 10 days, the Government has announced today
If you look at South African data which I have tweeted last few days, peak of cases was in consistent decline by day 10.
So why would a firebreak in 8 days time in UK make any sense
(I don't think a firebreak at any time makes sense, I'm just pointing out the madness)
I wonder if people, both doctors and others, who push out
#COVID19
stories from hospitals, both true and false, ever think about the worried, terrified frail lonely individuals who hear these missives and go to bed night after night terrified.
Then wake up even more scared.

Prolonged isolation won’t work now because we won’t be able to sustain it.
Which is why we SAVE IT FOR THE PEAK.
After speaking to patients today who have suffered the real cost of lockdown: financial hardship, ill health & loneliness in the harshest of times, you’ll forgive me for not having any interest in a couple who had the privilege to up &emigrate when their life got uncomfortable

Rest assured this is being dealt with appropriately.
It is a disgrace this person to tell “working class people” how they should have voted as if they don’t understand what the privileged idealogues understand.

Now that we have vaccinated over 40% of the adult population, which protects against severe illness & death...
And we are testing more than ever....
Daily case figures are LESS relevant.
Now what we should follow is hospital admissions and deaths.
Case numbers not helpful.
I wrote to Matt Hancock to warn him of what 66 GPs see on the ground: heart disease, delayed care, terrifying levels of mental health needs & reduction in children’s services.
I sent him timely data. Experience. Concern.
His reply was cut and paste from old speeches.

That pain will never be measured or reflected on a chart or data set of official figures.
That pain matters.
Make no mistake, schools are not closed because this virus is so deadly.
Schools are closed because NO creativity was put into opening them safely: where are the Nightingale schools? Where are the school testing centres?
This is not virus. This is failure.

Despite being an

GP I haven’t said anything yet about the current GP storm. What I will say:
✅My surgery still see patients face to face.
✅The U.K. doesn’t have enough GPs
✅We were TOLD to do telephone triage to meet demand.
✅Most GPs prefer seeing patients. I do
And once again we are all plunged into uncertainty, fear and anxiety.
A state we have lived in now for 15 months.
Any hope we all had seems to have been shattered.
A fitting end to
#MentalHealthAwarenessWeek
It’s actually grotesque that some people seem to relish the potential bad news and potential for an even longer lockdown or vaccines not working.
There’s realism. And then there’s downright damaging doomsaying.
In a vaccinated population - any additional measures have to be REALLY effective to make an impact on case numbers AND be worth the risks.
Is this proven for masks in classes? Given downsides for kids and staff.
Or are the schools as usual the “do something” fall guy
A word of advice to the *millions* suffering anxiety, ptsd and the collective trauma from

It is terrifying and traumatising for many of us

So we just spent Jewish new year as we always do - friends, family, eating, honey cake, synagogue...
And it’s all been the same as normal as it has been for the last 40 years that I can remember until last night...
We are now in a situation where the experts tell us to wait for the vaccine and induced immunity for the end to the

restrictions.
Whilst the same experts tells us that
@10DowningStreet
is quarantined because we can’t trust induced immunity.
So that’s great messaging!

That advice has stood the test of time for me as a parent and a GP.

Before you shout to cancel things for kids: school plays, concerts, parties…Ask:

2) Has the adults equivalent also been cancelled?
3) Have I considered the acute & ongoing negative impacts?

It’s entirely baffling that two England players are self isolating (even if as a precaution) but Scottish players are not. If we’ve been in same place as positive person we must self isolate? Hate to see football effected but it is a confusing example to fans. They must be clear.

If only everyone talking about summer holidays spent some of that time contemplating the tsunami of children’s mental health problems this last year has provoked, and prioritising that this year.
I suppose that’s not as palatable as someone’s holiday to Cornwall.
Reality bites:

Now at huge risk from other harms left untreated.

Some people will not be at a Christmas table next year because they were alone isolated all of 2020 and died from physical or mental health conditions exacerbated by loneliness

2. A death = a death. Whether from covid or loneliness. Grief is the same. Pain is pain
3. There is now a
