As both a citizen and physician, I am appalled by the harm described in this affidavit towards a civil servant and his pregnant wife at the hands of his own government and employer. It is abandonment. It is wrong.
JUST IN: Another medical horror story in a court affidavit from a USAID employee stationed overseas. Says his pregnant wife was not medevac-ed for emergency health care because of directives from Washington. Took intervention of a U.S. senator to reverse — but was too late.

Dismantling USAID is a moral blunder and strategic mistake. Misinformation and disinformation fomenting its desmise are hurting America, its soft power and real human beings. It's in America's self interest to alleviate suffering and death abroad. @PIH

The potential for a pandemic is low until it is not. Individual risk of exposure to #H5N1 can be low even as more animal and human infections occur - the latter of which increases probability of the emergence of a novel virus with increased clinical severity or transmissibility.
