My 18 months old grabbed my phone and somehow has written an email to Springer Nature Customer Service. All gibberish but still I am impressed. My apologies to Springer Nature, of course.

By 16S so we will focus in the future on dissecting this question further using shotgun meta genomics or metatranscriptomics. End!.

So sepsis seemed to be the cause. So what bacteria are being coated by sIgM in the trout gut? Similar to human studies, we observed a big degree of overlap between taxa coated by sIgT or sIgM. We found a few taxa that were preferentially coated by sIgM though. This was all done.

We next combined DSS colitis with IgM depletion to see how important IgM is during disease states. Fish started to die. We were asked by the reviewers why. It turns out in the absence of IgM and with DSS several pathobionts translocated into the liver and LPS levels spiked.

Dysbiosis and bacterial translocation into the bloodstream. Interestingly, IgM depletion also led to striking differences in the metabolomic profile of the gut mucus, with significant losses in SCFA and bile acids as well as essential amino acids.

We developed an IgM depletion model where we could selectively deplete IgM in rainbow trout and evaluate what happened to gut bacteria, gut integrity, inflammation and translocation. We found that IgM depletion causes loss of barrier integrity, inflammatory gene expression,.

Comes from sIgA studies in mammals and our own work with teleost sIgT. However, we consistently saw that an important sunset of trout gut bacteria were also coated with sIgM. This is surprisingly similar to what happens in humans, yet mouse models (at least in lab mice) do not.

Also very important congratulations to all the authors, this was a tour de force. Now to the science: .SIgs coat a large proportion of gut bacteria dictating who stays and who goes. This process also impacts bacterial metabolism. Most of what we know about sIg coating.

We are happy to share our latest published work where we show that secretory IgM is essential for maintaining gut microbiota homeostasis and metabolism. This is a long standing collaboration between the Sunyer lab and my lab 🧵.

Congratulations to Chris Hall's lab. So cool to see this story out using beautiful and powerful zebrafish tools. Circadian rhythm and bacterial killing (almost a rhyme?).

Scientists have found that the #circadian clock gene per2 boosts daytime antibacterial activity in #neutrophils by promoting infection-responsive hmgb1a expression in larval zebrafish. @AucklandUni. Learn more in Science #Immunology:
