Good morning, everyone!
Elections profiles are live on
@AEJMC
platforms. I am running to represent the association as an ACEJMC member. The link to vote should hit your inboxes today, and I hope to earn your support!
Seeing John Goodman trending, and just figured I would note his portrayal of Dan Connor is, to me, one of the more underrated TV dads, and I feel pretty good about getting to see him do it well *twice* and show us different stages of an average guy's life, making it work.
@DrShardeDavis
Send an amended CV with the acceptance email to your committee, chair, & Dean. Most universities will accepted additions like that in the process. Good luck!
Don’t know who needs to hear this on
#NCA
and
#AEJMC
deadline week: You belong in the discipline. You and your work matter. There are others in these associations who need to hear what you have to say. I look forward to hearing from you and reading it in the years ahead.
Re-tenured and it will be Professor McCollough as of Fall 2023. Deeply appreciative for each of you who wrote in support of my candidacy, and looking forward to the body of work ahead.
So proud of our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners. After 2 years of fundamentally changing the program we’ve been recommended for full reaccreditation. Wrapping up our visit tomorrow, but incredible work on the part of this community. On to two rounds of votes ahead!
Now that it is "Listserv Official," it is an honor to share that I share I have been elected by the

Honored to serve as the first Ayers Family Endowed Chair of Journalism & Mass Communication. Deeply gratified helping build our first two endowed professorships and naming

Enjoyed sitting in on the
@aejmcspig
annual business meeting, where they recognized my Top Faculty Paper Award. This one makes 6 overall, and 3-for-3 on competitive pedagogical paper submissions. Honored to see my work has a home with so many talented peers at
@AEJMC
It is my privilege and pleasure to share that as of this morning,
@JSUNews
's Department of Communication completed its turnaround, having earned a 17-0-1 vote of endorsement as a fully reaccredited program by ACEJMC. Proud of the hard work of our faculty, alumni, and students.
Personal Professional Update:
I’ve been elected to serve as Department Chair of the Department of Communication at Jacksonville State University beginning in the fall semester. I am honored to have the confidence and support of my colleagues to help lead them in this process.
Got word late last week I’ll be serving as the new Senior Associate Editor at
@jpreprd
. It’s an honor and privilege to serve under
@bourlanddavis
, and alongside so many great peers. I look forward to connecting with pedagogical scholars in legitimizing our field through service.
Thrilled to see word this afternoon that my first international conference presentation at

will be this May with my "Ride or Die" collaborators
@adriwall
and
@GinaLuttrell
looking at our exploration of the integration of feminist pedagogy in project-based course.
Mantra:
Strong start to my Spring Break. Seeing our Communication Department at
@JSUNews
receiving strong support from the accreditation committee for full reaffirmation at the April 28 Council vote! Big intermediate step, and a reflection of our team’s incredible work every day!
@TechSideline
is killing it today on NSD. Speed, context, and backstory well-packed for this platform. Know what I'm watching on breaks the rest of the day.
@meganmmenchaca
Same problem in Louisiana. We have… two (?) higher ed reporters in the state, and one only covers two campuses. Louisiana has the only HBCU system in the country, in addition to three other systems. We can’t keep up. It stings to see SO many articles about the Harvard thing.
@RTMannJr
A loss for Manship, the institution, and for so many aspiring professionals who would have benefited from your wise counsel. Congratulations on such a great run with our school, Bob.
Finally got to pull together my thoughts and review notes from reading these two gems from
@dpompper
and
@KarenRussell
for a review that will come out in
@jmcquarterly
later this year. Hot take: invaluable new insights and perspectives. Deeper, diverse histories in PR we need.
Finally, fellow Hokie Dr. Nneka Logan brings us a great presentation on representations of race in brands and key figures in contemporary practice working to cultivate a better practice of public relations accounting for CSR as it relates to race and social Justice.
#AEJMC23
💯 and I’ll extend that to everyone engage in service from paper reviewers and on-site volunteers to executive committee members in the DIGs . . . There just isn’t a valid criticism I’ve heard about anyone’s work to bring us back together this year

was a huge success. Many awards & recognitions to members, but the unsung heroes deserving the biggest praise: the stay-on-your-feet-16-hours-a-day and remain-positive-in-the-face-of-complaints awards go to
@AEJMC
staff. These folks get the most appreciation-thank you!!!

Can we talk about classifying Kid Rock and Ted Nugent as somehow diametrically opposed to “hoodlums,” assuming there wasn’t a clear racial overtone to his use of the term?
Taking a break before an evening out with this incredible group of aspiring, but already accomplished leaders and innovators in our field. Appreciative of
@NewhouseSU
and Dean
@DeanMarkLodato
for bringing this back into the mix for our discipline with Scripps Howard.

I shed many tears while typing up these heart-wrenching text messages sent and received by UNC students yesterday. Our campus was on lockdown for more than three hours.
Beyond proud of this cover and the team behind it.
Thrilled to learn I’ll be rocking it at IPRCC for the first time this March with my brilliant collaborators
@adriwall
and
@GinaLuttrell
with our ongoing research on social media curriculum in accredited programs!
Selections were tough, so we’re really proud of this one:
It’s a wrap! Congratulations to our hundreds of engaged members on a great ‘22-23 in the
@AEJMC_PRD
. So many quality papers, great panel themes, and so much dedication from our elected leadership and member volunteers in support of our events and the research program. Onward!
When we say high density, we mean it. 🙌 Here are a couple of photos from the great presenters at this session. We couldn’t snap a photo of all presenters so please add your photos to Twitter so we can amplify!

I love how this interview segment captures how timeless baseball really is.
@BenVerlander
talking about being a kid, watching RJ pitch his perfect game, and RJ explaining how it was his twilight, and taking more joy in younger teammates celebrating the team accomplishment then.
One of
@BenVerlander
's earliest baseball memories was watching Randy Johnson's perfect game with his Dad... so what does The Big Unit remember from that day? 💎

Colleagues:
We're hiring a tenure-track position in public relations and advertising, with a start date of August of 2022.
If you have a grad student, or perhaps have an interest in helping modernize an Ad PR curriculum for today's industry, apply here:
To the folks who made it under the gun for
#ica22
. To the folks who actively passed on
#ica22
. To the folks who had simple personal wins while trying to keep themselves and their students in the fight this week. I see you.
There aren’t enough words for how important this is for AEJMC and its long-term health. Grad students are the future of our field, and making sure they have a seat at the table is absolutely essential to our association’s health.
This is a historical step for the organization. For the first time in
@AEJMC
's history, student members will be voting in the association's annual election of leadership.
Thankful our fearless leader
@PR_Johnson
is always advocating for graduate students to have a voice & vote!
#ChairLife
Great week for recognizing individual accomplishments that helped contribute to our program’s collective success. Just a lot of fun looking back.
The newly reaccredited Department of Communication is once again hiring, this time a tenure-track line in broadcast journalism and studio production. If you know of someone looking to come work with a great group in a 4K studio, drop me a line & apply!
Proud to add another chapter to my
#RideOrDie
catalog, co-authoring Chapter 39 on the Dark Side of AI with
@adriwall
and
@GinaLuttrell
in her co-edited volume. We make good trouble, we write well, and we have fun doing it.
Congratulations to
@cattlebellmedia
for winning First Place in Top Student Paper Competition Award! Fascinating qualitative phenomenological media study presented at CTEC 💯
Was grabbing a drink, and a quick bite after packing, and ran into a colleague I was a mentor partner for. Guy’s coming up on tenure, and after a brief chat, he noted I had given him some good advice 4 years back. You never know when you help someone more than you imagined.
Buttoning up and managing a flight delay this morning, but what a remarkable group of people, and great to see a program like this back in the mix. Thankful for our hosts at
@NewhouseSU
and the guests who shared their time, wisdom, and perspective with us this week.
Some Wednesdays are for incredible news in
#ChairLife
. I have been invited to the 2023 cohort of the Scripps Howard Leadership Academy at
@NewhouseSU
in July. I'm excited about the opportunity to make new connections, strengthen relationships, and to grow as a leader for my unit.
Honored to share a piece with
@GinaLuttrell
,
@adriwall
, and
@jleecomm
in this one. Looking forward for seeing everyone else’s work in the weeks ahead!
We are about to publish this excellent issue of Journalism and Mass Communication Educator. I was thrilled to serve as guest editor for the special

National award finalists in two categories for current and former student reporters at The Chanticleer!
It’s deeply gratifying to see our hard work translate to tangible student success on the national stage and in building careers!
Appreciate seeing support for the staff at this conference who are executing long-standing plans, rather than wrongheaded criticism. Thank you,

staff.
Each year,

Final plug to my many friends in

on this the final day of grind in front of us: The

This year, the

Happy to see our first issue of the 8th volume out for JPRE. Some great studies, GIFTS, and useful book reviews for educators in PR and Strat Comm Courses. Some great work from our editorial team and contributions from veteran contributors and new scholars

Just gonna throw some love at my ride or dies

for constantly going to the mat for and with her students, and
@GinaLuttrell
for some choice mentorship of junior colleagues trying to figure this P&T thing out up at SU.
Opinion | The

building renaming committee has looked to be another public relations stunt.
If the university wants to regain the student body's trust, 13 building names need to be taken down.
Seeing all of these new faculty appointments give me life as we begin Spring 2023. Love it for so many talented new faces in our field, as well as some veterans findings the next phase. Keep 'em coming!
Picked up the departmental mail and was thrilled to see this show up in my inbox,

. Took a few minutes over coffee to read the intro, and I am excited to dive in over the next couple of weeks with the text and see where it goes!
It's going to be a good year for CPRE integration with
