Our medical student had online clinical skills teaching today. They’ve all been given a bag of kit to take home and she was OBSERVED CATHETERISING A CUCUMBER OVER ZOOM! 😂🥒
Do you ever work with FY1s who are so good they make you paranoid about what people thought of you at that stage?! I could barely cannulate and this guy has an entire ward under control!
My parents’ road had their first coffee morning today.
Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 10:30am people stand outside their front doors with a cup of coffee and catch up over fences or across the road whilst maintaining their distance.
🤗
Recognising those in the last year of life AND having conversations/making plans with them CAN be done on AMU ... and it works!!

Staggered home after work, opened the fridge and found this.
Husband has gone to his parents for a couple of days and I don’t know how to cook.
Do these ingredients make anything? Please help, I’m culinarily illiterate.
I feel a little useless as the Med Reg currently.
No need for clerking as ED reviews are excellent. The few non-COVID admissions are clerked by SHO who has time to get a full history. Consultants seeing all admissions straight away.
I’m just putting people on lists 🤷♂️
Who wants a year-long fellowship that’s 70% quality improvement projects & 30% leadership training (that’s training just for yourself)?
Winners, that’s who.

Transforming End of Life Care Leadership Fellow applications are almost here.

I miss the theatre so so much! That feeling of being half (whole) bottle of wine down, waiting for the curtain to come up, knowing that someone is going to belt the most beautiful songs out that make your bones shake
THAT feeling is keeping me going

Of those who express a preference, around 60% would want to die at home BUT the majority of people do not have a preference.
Patient preference very dependent on available support.
Dying in hospital should not be demonised/admonished.

First day back
@uclh
after 2 weeks isolation.
So much has changed in such a short time.
Nobody seems phased by this and is just getting on with it.
Things are different, strange and new but everyone is just quietly accepting, changing and carrying on.
It’s amazing!

Hey
@Telegraph
, I fixed your ‘news-worthy article’:
“For many men, especially those threatened by empowered women, misogyny is a useful tool to make their willies feel bigger. They don’t call it ‘reductionism’ for nothing”
“For many women, especially in the public eye, wearing make-up makes them feel more confident and empowered. They don’t call it ‘war paint’ for nothing”

It’s ok to be “in”/feel not quite ready yet.
It took graduating, getting a boyfriend and STILL being alive and happy for some (even those very close) to accept me as gay.
As long as you can be proud of yourself as you currently are, you’re doing it right

Dear
@uber
, this morning your driver followed me in to my building, squared up to me, called me a “bitch” and threatened to “punch my face in” because he felt I shut my door too hard.

1/ Platelets ‘leak’ potassium when they are taken into a blood tube. If they are left for a long period before being analysed or if the patient has a very high platelet count, pseudo-hyperkalaemia can occur. This can be to levels over 6 and so...

Paeds OSCE talking to dad about Dx I’d never heard of
M: What would you like out of this conversation?
D: I’d like to know what’s wrong
M: Is there something particularly worrying?
D: Yes what the problem *actually is*
M: ...

M: How has this worry been affecting you?
D: 🙄

Nights done and now time to self isolate for the next fortnight with my poorly hubby. I wonder what we’ll return to when we’re back in the hospital.
Pet-based memes and care packages in the form of wine deliveries most welcome.
See you in April!

Dear Wanda,
It is a shame that you find two men dancing together wrong.
Your homophobia is boring, monotonous and unseemly.
Kindly keep out of my comments. You’re not welcome.
All I want is:
👀The eyes of a radiologist.
🧘🏽♂️The calmness of an anaesthetist.
🤲🏾The hands of a surgeon.
💙The light heartedness of a paediatrician.
🧠The brains of a med reg.
Is that too much of an ask 🙏🏾

My lovely CMT has a Neurology ST3 interview coming up. Any tips for the clinical station and case presentation part?
I don’t think my tip of “bleep Neuro” is particularly useful!
@damian_dooey
Just make sure you do it AFTER you’ve finished. I took this yesterday then couldn’t get in to the ward for my last shift today as left it in the pile 😂
