In February, the AEP made a written submission to the Education Select Committee’s inquiry into “Solving the #SEND Crisis” We shared with MPs what EPs experience every day: a system under immense pressure – and it’s children and young people who are paying the price.🧵#TwitterEPs

An at times difficult but important watch. There needs to be a national conversation about this; Government and tech companies have huge roles to play to prevent any more tragedies. #Swiped #smartphones @peterkyle
In a landmark experiment @mattjwillis and @EmmaWillis lock up a group of schoolchildren’s smartphones for 21 days, in a bid to find out whether they should be banned before the age of 14.

I wonder if this will trickle through to public sector workers (including teaching staff) on the #Soulbury scale… @AEPsychologists @NEUnion 🤔
🚨 NEW: The government has announced the following pay rises for public sector workers - 6% for Armed Forces - 5.5% for NHS workers and teachers - 5% for prison officers - 4.75% for police officers It will cost £9.4bn - 2/3 funded by government and the rest from savings

One of the most useful activities to do in a transition session is find out about the children's reading identities (and share yours with them). What are their thoughts on reading? What sort of books do they like? How much do they read at home? Who do they enjoy reading with?

One of my holiday jobs has been to learn more about Gestalt Language Processors (GLP), as this is coming up more in my work. A SaLT colleague has signposted me to meaningful speech page & work of Marge Blanc. #TwitterEPs anyone else interested in GLP? #Gestalt #SaLT @edpsyuk

Want to make a dynamic phonics assessment like this. Any #twittereps do anything like this to make literacy skills assessment more interesting?
I've created a @JENGA game to help engage some children who find reading & phonics a challenge. Common words & cvc words on one side, phonics on the other to practice sounds and create their own cvc words, so fully differentiated. Learning dressed up as a fun. Next up numeracy 👍

Educational Psychologists typically use a solution focussed and strength based approach in their work and would be keen to be involved in this discussion at a national as well as local level @AEPsychologists @EdPsychBham
My research from last year on Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities found children want support to help them to do well, but experience systems that focus on asking ‘what is wrong with you?’ instead of ‘how can we help?’. 4/5

It was great fun sharing the findings of my research on the role of educational psychologists in supporting students with literacy difficulties and/or dyslexia this afternoon at the #AEPconference23. Such an important topic given the upcoming new BPS guidance. @AEPsychologists

Quick chats won't help David. Detentions won't help David. Isolations won't help David. Exclusions won't help David. Behaviour charts won't help David. Relationships, connection, trust, understanding. That's what he needs.
