@nkilvert The dissolution of a department ranked in the Top 50 in the world for Earth and marine science will directly limit our national capability to tackle the most pressing environmental challenges in coming decades. Uni enrolment #s now dictate research avenues for Australia

I’m so sorry for the researchers, the research students & the families affected. I’m even more sorry for our nation: for the lost potential of students who will never meet the outstanding educators affected by these rash decisions. Please reach out if I can help in any way. (3/3)

I’d seen @Macquarie_Uni as a beacon of hope for women in science, hiring the most inspiring and influential advocates in Australia (@heatherkhandley @kate_selway @sophluidynamics @April__Abbott)- now they have NO women left in geoscience(!?). In 2021, this is unethical. (2/3)

Why is such a devastating national loss of talent on this scale overlooked by the media @abcscience @smh @10NewsFirst @Science_Academy? Australia needs these scientists to create a more sustainable, brighter future for us through research and education. And NO 👩‍🔬women left!?(1/3)

So @Macquarie_Uni has now officially made all but two of its geoscience staff redundant, and the department will cease to exist at the end of this year. 1/3

Today I am on day 2 of maternity leave sorting baby clothes & cooking meals to freeze like a doomsday prepper! I’m so thankful to work in an academic role with a generous parental leave policy. #science4all #SuperstarsofSTEM #February11 @ScienceAU @WomenScienceDay @uowresearch

I’m at the @DHSymposium @UQ_sees learning about Ninjemys oweni (Owen’s ninja turtle) and other megafauna from @TheFatWombat. I 💕 my job!! It’s also great to hear someone else’s perspective of their trouble with the peer review process in such a fun and light-hearted way.
