I'm so thrilled to announce I've signed as academic faculty at the University of Sydney @Sydney_Uni as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor equivalent) in the School of Biomedical Engineering. My lab will study clinical and preclinical stimulation therapy in epilepsy!

Could we more effectively drive brain network changes (to prevent future seizures) by targeting stimulation to periods when the brain is more capable of adapting? Can we more effectively use neuromod in a disease-modifying capacity rather than as a "defibrillator"?

Happy to share my article (w/ @RolstonJohn @ChantelCharleb @50kDinar and team) https://t.co/9Y9H8ZzlN3
@Brain1878! Stimulation timing is a critical parameter in neuromod for epilepsy, but in a surprising twist, stim occurring outside of seizures may be doing the heavy lifting πͺ

Neurostimulation can reduce seizures in cases of drug-resistant epilepsy, but rarely results in seizure freedom. Anderson et al. show that more frequent st

#Epilepsy was thought to be THE example of the value of closed loop brain stim. Turns out, benefit may depend on stim when seizures are unlikely, not more likely. Fascinating results by @RolstonJohn @Brain_Circuits @BWHNeurosurgery.

Even though I picked the "right" career as an engineer, choosing the academic route made this loan payoff burdensome, and I had to forgo things like home-ownership due to my debt. It was terrifying while I was getting my PhD how quickly my loans were accruing (2/3)

For the first time since I was 18, my student loan balance just hit $0 after having nearly $80k from my undergraduate loans. In addition to aggressive payments I made on my private loans during grad school, I had 3 years of the @NIH_LRP @NINDSfunding in my post-doc. (1/3)

Female scientists at NYU feel utterly betrayed today, myself included. Where does Title IX start and end? If youβre willing to support the women at NYU, we would appreciate if this were spread far and wide. #WomenInScience #WomenInSTEM @NIH @HHMINEWS #Cancer #Science

Working in our lab gave Maggie awesome shadowing opportunities in Neurosurgery with @RolstonJohn @BornaliK @rshervin and an introduction to 3D Slicer, bash scripting, and MATLAB! It was a great experience to mentor Maggie for this program! #WomenInSTEM
