People who will miss out on continuity of care with a skilled specialist and instead see different locums - if they are able to see a psychiatrist at all! It's not too late to fix the exodus of health workers from NSW @ChrisMinnsMP (don't forget nurses and midwives too!) 4/4

The losers are 1) NSW taxpayers footing the bill for locum agencies which are more expensive than just paying the doctors in line with other states, which is what psychiatrists are asking for, and 2) people experiencing mental illness and their loved ones - 3/4

The winners out of this debacle are private locum agencies who stand to make 15% or more commission on the $3000+ per day being offered to fill urgent gaps. 2/4

Over 200 psychiatrists have resigned from NSW Health after the Minns Labor government has failed to negotiate acceptable pay and conditions and asked already overstretched health workers to find productivity gains. 1/4

The Minister stepped in last week at Orange and I expect him to do the same at Queanbeyan. But an ad hoc approach won’t fix the problem - it can and will keep happening without legislative change and state-wide funding. Abortion is health care.

I spoke to ABC yesterday after desperate clinicians and patients in both Orange and Queanbeyan have turned to the media to expose bans on abortion services in public hospitals.

The NSW govt has said this historic pay rise for police will boost recruitment and stymie staff shortages. So why not nurses and midwives too when they are leaving the state in droves? 🤔

But this isn't just happening at Orange Hospital. Conscientious objection, an important provision in the law, is being weaponised by departments and whole organisations to prevent people from accessing abortion. The Greens are working on draft legislation to change that. 2/2

Abortion is health care. The Health Minister has made the right call in stepping in today to ensure that clinicians at Orange Hospital are not restricted from providing abortion, after hospital executives limited services to only certain pregnancy complications. 1/2
